As an admitted conspiracy theorist, considering all the time this has been percolating, I wouldn't put it past the most corrupt sports league in the country (well maybe after boxing) consistent with that team's preferential treatment to grease the news cycle on this and maybe reach out to the TX LE and DAs to push it forward.
Now you'd ask why Goodell would pile on to an already miserable week, right? Well, with the disgrace of Ray Rice, the tangible suspicion of his own personal complicity, the attention now directed toward Greg Hardy's disturbing domestic battery conviction with the old coot owner crying about "integrity" while his team continues to turn a deaf ear to suspending him, and the SF 49ers allowing Ray McDonald, another accusee to play while suspending their broadcaster for making a snarky observation about Mrs Rice's sincerity, aside from helping out a favored team whose OL got shredded and can't afford to go 0-2, isn't it preferable to divert attention away from Goodell's crimes or incompetency and a combustible, emotional and galvanizing issue on a 3 team front in favor of an corporal punishment debate that going in, half the population supports doing as part of good child-rearing? Just my two cents.
