Miami Dolphins – Performances of Note
Mike Pouncey, C: -3.4
Breakdown: Since returning to the lineup in his new position at right guard, Pouncey has now earned two negative grades on the bounce. Struggled in this game with run blocking especially.
Signature Play: Q1, 15:00. The game started badly for Pouncey, driven back into the quarterback for a sack by Jeremiah Ratliff on the first offensive snap.
Cameron Wake, DE: +3.7
Breakdown: Cameron Wake is still one of the league’s most fearsome pass rushers. He was a problem for the Bears all day, and completed a pass-rushing trifecta play, notching a sack, forced fumble and recovery all on the same play.
Signature Stat: Collected five total pressures – a sack, a hit and three hurries – three more than any other Miami defender.
Ryan Tannehill, QB: -0.4
Breakdown: Opening the game with 14 straight completions is the best mark among QBs in the league this season, but Tannehill threw at least four off-target passes in that sequence that hurt the chance for yards after the catch and in general was far from great in this game. His raw stats may look elite, but he was closer to average overall.
Signature Stat: When not pressured in this game had a passer rating of 128.2

I've been hard on Tannehill's inconsistency, but even I'm not that nitpicky. The kid had a great game (for him) - let's acknowledge that.

Also, on one play Pouncey blocked 3 defenders at the same time ... not one right after the other, but, at the same damn time. For his second game back - I'll take that.

PFF just makes things the opposite so people talk about them.

They're not wrong about Pouncey. I said it in the game thread and I also mentioned we've struggled to run the ball since he's been in the starting lineup. Yeah, we're getting yards but most of that has been Tannehill. Lamar Miller is averaging 3.6 ypc since Pouncey became starter when he was averaging 5.7 ypc before that.

According the PFF's grading I believe the grade they gave Tannehill means he had an average game...wasn't bad, wasn't good...and they are being nitpicky. I can watch any game and see several throws that were "off-target" where the receivers make adjustments to the catch and it goes down as a completion. I noticed yesterday that the first deep pass to Clay was right at his head...if he puts it out in front of Clay, Clay has a better chance of turning up field. The TD pass to Clay was the exact same spot...then I starting thinking. Clay's two drops this year was when Tannehill led him on the pass where Clay had to catch the ball away from his body and in front of him...maybe Tannehill is putting it at his head cause he knows Clay struggles catching the ball away from his body...don't know but two passes at Clay's head seems to tell me Tannehill is trying to put the ball in the same spot.

I didn't see the whole game but he was outstanding the parts I watched. this is why we can't take these stat sites seriously.

How is this a "signature stat"?? Tannehill had a 123.6 QB rating for all snaps combined. There's not really a difference between 128 QBR and 123 QBR.

Anyways, PFF grading system is just terrible. They can surely come up with a better way to grade plays/players.

It seems like PFF rates him good when he doesn't play well, and bad when he plays great.
I am not a fan of PFF when it comes to QBs. I think its a good tool for positions in the trenches that we cannot focus on as much watching the game live.

RT had 27 plays with no pressure a QBR of 128, 9 plays with pressure a QBR of 67. All plays 123.

this was quite a few peoples' fear when discussing pouncey coming back at guard.

maybe it's time to end the experiment and put our best lineman back at his best position.

another reason why people who primarily judge sports through stats are idiots
