Miami Dolphins

– Ryan Tannehill (-3.5) was thoroughly outplayed by a career backup, and he still hasn’t taken any sort of step forward from 2014. This was supposed to be his breakout year, but it’s been a dumpster-fire on offense to start the season for Miami. The Dolphins’ receivers did have five drops, but some of that was due to Tannehill’s inaccuracy.

– Cornerback is a big problem spot for the Dolphins, and it cost them any chance in this one. Brice McCain (-3.7), in particular, was picked on, allowing 6/10 targets for 100 yards. Buffalo skirted around Miami’s D-line and attacked straight at their secondary, using the quick passing game or play-action rollouts.

– This is the Ndamukong Suh (+5.5) that the Dolphins paid for. He’s not—and never will be—a one man defense, but Suh created consistent havoc on his own while his line-mates struggled to make an impact. He had three stops and one hurry, but blew up linemen on a handful of stunts that couldn’t get home due to Tyrod Taylor’s quick release. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, only one other defensive lineman (Derrick Shelby, +1.6) graded positively for the game.

Top Performers:

DT Ndamukong Suh (+5.5)

WR Rishard Matthews (+2.6)

RT Ja’Wuan James (+1.8)

DE Derrick Shelby (+1.6)

RB Lamar Miller (+1.3)

And worst in NFL at their position for week 3:

Wide receivers: Brandon Marshall, Jets (-3.9) and Greg Jennings, Dolphins (-3.0)

When in doubt, throw it off of an Eagles defenders helmet. Or so Marshall thought he should do. Despite posting big numbers, Marshall had two big drops and two fumbles (including the aforementioned ill-advised lateral). Of his catches, few were anything more than expected plays. Jennings was much more invisible, seeing only three targets. He caught one of them, for 10 yards. But he dropped the other two. So welcome to the team, Greg.

Guards: Jamil Douglas, Dolphins (-8.9) and Brandon Fusco, Vikings (-3.1)

Douglas struggled mightily against the strong Bills defensive line, allowing two QB hits and six pressures. He also had a hard time run blocking, allowing multiple tackles for two yards or less and generally having a hard time blocking anyone. It was actually a decent day for all RGs, as Fusco made this list despite allowing only a QB hit and two hurries. However, he was beaten two additional times on passes that were thrown before any pressure could take place.

And best at their position:

Defensive interior – ends: Jurrell Casey, Titans (+7.5) and Ndamukong Suh, Dolphins (+5.5)

The ever-excellent Casey moved to the top of our 3-4 defensive end rankings with a strong performance, particularly rushing the passer where he picked up a sack, two hits and four more hurries. Suh has got plenty of criticism recently, but he was on form against the Bills, even if he didn’t show up on the stat sheet in a big way. Look elsewhere for the Dolphins’ struggles

I'm with Fox, get these guards off the field. Play the journeyman, Linkenbach and McClendon and put Dallas Thomas to bed and resume the Jamil Douglas experiment in 2016.

Douglas, as strong as he is, is a rookie and isn't used to NFL beasts like the Bills D-line. He'll benefit from a full season and offseason conditioning and strength training. Not to mention that his practice opponents are..well...maybe not quite as good as we thought in terms of whipping him into shape.

douglas should have sat and learned...and spent an offseason in the nfl strength program...there's no excuse for dallas thomas this is year 3 and in our o the left guard is the easiest position to play

he's just awful...and waiting around for him is proven now to be wasting time...no thomas on this team in 2016

How was Brice McCain not the worst corner in the league yesterday?

Anyone with eyes and a brain saw this **** storm developing since the draft. I'm very embarrassed for Ross, as he proved his absolute cluelessness re: football by his comments saying that he expected Miami to compete for a Super Bowl. This roster has been a dumpster fire from the get-go. You did nothing to improve the offensive line, defensive line, and your picks to improve the secondary were later in the draft for complete non-impact players, at least in 2015.
I'm not even saying Miami had a bad draft/ FA period, just that nothing that was done had any value for the 2015 season. Except Suh, but he should have enough 'Prime' left in him to get good through 2018.
Devante Parker could be a great player to impact 2016, and other guys, too, could be really good next year and beyond.

They just did nothing to make 2015 good.

'...defensive line'..... I meant Linebackers, not D-line.

Would have been better to leave him on the left side where he's played his entire college career and taken Dallas Thomas' spot and you roll with Turner on the RG spot.

No matter. It's all going to change next year. Coach, scheme, players...everything will be different for better or worse.

Damn I didn't think Douglas played that bad

Douglas played high, and just lacked strength to face this DLine it seemed.

many many times in the running game he was just destroyed from getting his angles by simple chest punches by Williams all game. He was out fired off the line, wasnt able to get into position and turn..... nothing against him at all though, he a rookie... just a lot to film to watch here and learn from everything. lots of lifting and work for his future!!!

Suh did play well yesterday. Just nobody to go with him.

Billy Turner needs to get some reps. He is a strong kid that can help the run blocking.

He played very poorly. I am curious about that early injury in the Jags game. He was hoping around after his foot flexed is an weird way. He has been horrible since that moment. Is it possible he is injured and still playing.

I did warn all of you that Douglas was the weak link. I agree he is a rookie forced to play because he actually beat out everyone at right guard. Trying Turner at right guard really set hi back from competing on the left side.

Douglas will be fine in the long run for us. He will take his lumps this season, but is a solid addition to our line next season and beyond. It's the Dallas Thomas experiment that needs to end.

And the LT position is just a disaster.
