Pff Ranks Davon Godchaux #3 In Run Stop Percentage

Wow, if that continues he will make me a believer. Fingers crossed it does, because he isn't bringing much pressure up the A gap.
I was looking forward to your thoughts on why he is having success. You said that he isn't bringing much pressure in his gap, but what is he doing right? Maybe that is what his DL coach is asking him to do?

Apparently he is controlling his gap, which is significant. I know he gained a lot of weight in the offseason, perhaps that helped him become big enough to be consistently stout. He always had good wrestler leverage, so if he can be consistently stout, that's enough to make me happy. We have the DE's to generate the bulk of our pressure. I'm pleased. I want to see him keep it up. We don't need domination from our DT's, just solid play and assignment sound football.

next years draft class has high level DLmen. hopefully we can nail another first rounder out of the park and continue to get build the line with guys who are consistent. i figure we lose hayes and probably phillips next year.

Run stuffers rarely get deserved pub.

Miami stole both those dts last year on day 3.
I’ll admit, I saw Godchaux as solid but nothing special last year / too slow. I still don’t think he’ll ever get to the QB but that’s ok - if he and Taylor keep playing like this we won’t get gashed up vs the run which means we’ll have a good chance every week.

when you consider we got Spence for $3m, absolutely. i like him and he is a great rotational guy but we can get a more consistent player than Phillips for $8m.

No way $8 million a year for 39.55% of the defensive snaps

by the way Spence is playing the most of any defensive tackle
with 56.72% of the snaps so far

So here’s the real question. Does miami let Jordan Phillips walk next year and ride with rookie deals godchaux and Taylor and likely Spence back again on a one year deal?

Hmmm...

Think this all depends on the growth of Vincent Taylor, who looks to have improved as well. If he can make a sizeable leap by season's end, then I'd let Phillips walk. I like Phillips talent wise, but it's been such a drag to get and keep him motivated. I don't want to be fooled by a contract year.

Godchaux is the best DT on this team and he's a long term starter.
