PFF has a good history of being able to point to unsung heroes, players that may go unnoticed nationally or perhaps even by the hometown fan base. Sometimes those players do get proper recognition both nationally and locally, but their contributions need to be put into better perspective.

Such is the story of Miami Dolphins running back Lamar Miller who captured the attention of Dolphins fans, even made fantasy football owners take notice, yet his true impact in 2014 is still flying under the radar.

The coaching staff's level of confidence, in regards to Miller, is very telling. This is the first year where we're hearing/seeing that he's the guy.

I am a fan of Lamar's but I don't put him in the Jamaal Charles league (yet). This is some of the danger of just looking at the analytics. Last year's numbers may say that they are comparable, but if we are honest Charles is a more dangerous RB.

again, all pff is doing is comparing jamal charles and lamar miller on ONE individual season. a season in which jamal charles was extremely limited/injured for the first handful of games, and likely still sub 100% then on. another note would be that when looking at the two players in comparison any sane person will account for what jamal charles has brought to the table consistently on a season to season basis. lamar miller has not put this kind of performance on consecutively, and if he plays every season here out with the kind of production and efficiency he has last year, well I think we'd all say he's had a damn good career. that my friends is how you put pff in perspective.

all that being said I think everyone's opinion on Miller changed at least in some way last season. i think we drafted ajayi specifically because of his skills in the pass catching game. it makes him an miller sort of a yin yang backfield, and could be a very good tandem for a good amount of years considering their age. with all this attention though it still seems like lamar is gonna get the lion's share of carries this season.

Miller had a great season despite a terrible oline. He was one of the bright spots last year, and hopefully with better blocking he will do even better this year.
His style suits our blocking scheme.

I'm a big PFF guy, but stats have limitations.

And I think one of those limitations is shown here, where PFF doesn't account for the fact Charles was the chiefs entire offense and teams stacked against him every down.

Statistically PFF makes a lot of good points here, but no teams were scared of miller last year. He was productive, but I don't think he blew anyone away. Charles on the other hand, flat out won games for his team, no stats for that.

Last year Miller had Wallace to push the safeties high. Miller faced mostly 7 man boxes and predominantly nickel personnel. We passed to set up the run.

This year, it will be different. While Kenny Stills may prove to be more of a big play threat for Tannehill than Wallace was, Stills will not open up the run lanes like.the fear of Wallace did. Miller will have a stiffer challenge this year.

Basically, Miller is all speed running. He has little shake, poor block reading skills, mediocre vision and no power. He is not Charles. For him, it's all about Lazor getting him to the 2nd level where his speed can be devastating.

Without Wallace, that will be harder. But, big targets like Cameron and Parker help nullify the pass rush, so we should execute more plays, meaning more chances to get Miller into space. Having Ajayi may free up Miller to make more big plays with a xhange of pace .

I'm excited. If we can get Miller to the 2nd level, he can have another great year. But if not, he will look a lot like Reggie Bush, where he had to avoid a loss in the backfield half the time.

Parker and Stills will be much better than Hartline and Wallace. There will be more running room at the LOS, not less....and the oline blocking should be improved as well.

I still don't think Parker and stills will be better The first year. Maybe year 2 or 3. Hope Parker become man.

You mean no better than Hartline and Wallace? I would be very disappointed if Stills and Parker are no better in 2015 than Hartline and Wallace in 2014.

Point #1- Wallace didn't put fear into anyone to that extent. For someone of his ridiculous speed, he can't run a a route to save his life and was rarely overtop of the D. Very little separation for a world class speed guy. p.s......Stills is basically just as fast with better hands. He will be feared more than Wallace was.

Point #2- He has a ton of "shake" and absolutely does NOT shy away from contact. I don't think he is as good as Charles (he's shown what he's worth consistently) but he doesn't need to be for him to get his proper respect.

one thing for sure I don't his increase in productivity is merely a function of the oline scheme...I think he's genuinely improving his game such as vision, the ability to stay upright through contact, not dancing as much in the backfield. I think his work ethic is definitely there.
