This is a decent article with some insight on what has happened through 2 weeks. This isn't to justify anything, I found it an interesting read, albeit a small sample size of the season. The numbers will change and he will land back in the pack. I like that PFF goes deeper with analytics to show where RT stands. Have a peek and would love to hear opinions

this is exactly what i came back to when i was doing some work on other qbs the last 2 weeks...perfectly stated...

"When you grade Tannehill throw by throw and then compare him to the rest of the league’s quarterbacks by the same measure, he looks a lot better"

still can't believe he missed that post route to wallace in the middle of the field vs new england though...

PFF is total crap. Tannehill isn't 3rd in anything. You stat boys kill me with this crap. He's been bad both games so far.

Football is a complex game, with a lot of moving parts and interdependent pieces all trying to come together with the same goal. The Miami passing attack hasn’t been firing on all cylinders – there have been miscues across the board that have resulted in some pretty pedestrian passing statistics for Tannehill, but it’s important that we realize how deceptive those statistics can be and actually look beyond them – to the tape.

This is the money quote....

PFF has guys sitting in the UK in basically an ivory tower and over think things like it's a Ph.D. thesis. They take a decent premise, stats lie because there are many moving parts, and then fall off the deep end creating a ridiculous idea to prove their point. They are very amateurish in their analysis and it's just not all that rigorous. You can't justify Tannehill 3rd. You may have a point somewhere but it gets lost in this ridiculous conclusion. If this were geometry proofs you may give them a C for showing some of their work but an F for the answer.

Didn't PFF rank Clemons as the 2nd best safety in football a year or two ago? Dude isn't even in the league anymore.

i'm not a pff guy but for my tape study they've called his performance thus far pretty right i dont know about the rankings stuff but i do know the tapes more sound than the pitchfork crowd will give it

Tannehill is becoming the Adam Dunn or J.D. Drew of football. The stat heads love his game, but the "eyeball test" people will say the metrics are nonsense.

I think the SCOREBOARD will say the metrics are nonsense. Football isn't figure skating or diving. QBs don't get points based on style and degree of difficulty, but for getting the ball into the end zone or close enough for a FG. Tannehill hasn't shown that he can do that very well, going back to the end of last season at least.

"How about taking into account that "it" factor of a QB? Specifically that of an elite franchise QB. Peyton may not face too much pressure because the man is a genius running his offense and making adjustments. Tannehill has not only been inaccurate but has been inaccurate in crucial parts of games. Especially in the Buffalo game. An elite franchise QB would have made those critical plays and kept their team in the game. Tannehill gets criticized because it's now becoming a pattern in regards to his inaccuracy and bad pocket awareness."

I think the the thing is that while Tannehill hasn't been good, neither have many other QBs around the league and that's why he is up there. I heard them explain their grades on LeBatard and it made sense. We have tunnel vision as fans of the team so we don't have objective eyes or insight when comparing against other QBs so far this year. Most of us haven't seen the entire 2 games of other teams outside the dolphins.

I'm a Tannehill fan and I'm not worried at this point. It's still early in the season and everyone is still new in the offense. But thus far Tannehill's performance has been subpar. Thus far he hasn't been good enough.

I have hope and faith. I'm a huge Lazor fan and have been since he was OC at UVa. He will get this right.

But so far Tannehill still throws his crossing patterns too conservatively a tad behind where the ball should be delivered. This results in WR's slowing down and catching the ball with no momentum and little run after the catch opportunities. This is a recurring issue with Tannehill and needs to be fixed.

He has problems with gauging proper depth on deep balls. This is akin to someone playing pool (billiards) and always having the right angle but not getting right how hard to hit the cue ball.

This is exacerbated by his inexperience throwing touch passes, putting air under the ball, and dropping the ball in a bucket on deep throws. He will just have to work through that. It will come ... but it isn't coming overnight.

Again, I have faith in Tannehill. I have even more faith in Lazor.
