After releasing our top 10 quarterbacks article yesterday, the biggest objection we heard from fans was about the inclusion of Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill at No. 10, and Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck.

This wasn’t a surprise to us, and the truth is that the ratings of the two QBs are incredibly close – with Luck coming in just behind Tannehill at No. 11. Luck is without question one of the best quarterbacks in the game, having led the Colts to the playoffs in all three of his seasons, including the AFC championship game last season. He recently ranked No. 5 in a poll of league coaches and executives by ESPN’s Mike Sando on the NFL’s best quarterbacks.

But while his physical talent is unquestioned and we certainly expect him to be a top-5 QB in the league very soon, his performance hasn’t yet matched that projection on a consistent basis.

While Luck has shown himself to be capable of impressive late-game drives, he still has too many plays every season that simply leave you scratching your head – mistakes that put him in position to have to lead comeback attempts in the first place. He has improved on this with each season, but he still has room to grow to become the quarterback he is capable of being – and frankly, the quarterback he is already credited with being.

As for Tannehill, he needs to become more consistent, too. As we mentioned, he barely edged out Luck in our ratings, so it’s not as though he’s a finished product, either. But based on how they’ve played to this point, the gap between these two players is much smaller than what is generally perceived. In fact, during thee 2014 seasons, Tannehill’s highest-graded game of the year was better than Luck’s, while his lowest-graded game of the year was also better.

Both of these guys have top-5 QB potential, and we won’t be at all surprised if we see both of them there in our ratings very soon. But to this point, Tannehill’s performance has been slightly better.

This is silly. Luck is clearly better than TH. This just shows that statistics dont tell the whole story once again. Luck had an amazing season last year and I would take him over TH any day of the week.

LUck - 62% comp, 4700+ yds, 40TDs, and only 16 INTs. - That's about as good as it gets man. PFF is ********.

nothing silly about it

top 5 qb tannehill will be provided he becomes more proficient as a pocket manager...only real still to be determined in his game at this point

Its very silly to say that Luck is 11th best in the NFL and behind TH.

Says stats don't tell the whole story. Lists off a bunch of stats.

Luck and RT haven't exactly had stellar OL's behind them

Oh the irony.

Nor in front of them, lol.

I love Luck. And if I had to choose between Ryan Tannehill and Andrew Luck, I would choose Luck. But Luck does throw a lot of INT's.

I've been saying this for 2 years now (and it's on finheaven). Luck is good but if you really listen how people talk about him, or post about him for that matter, you'd think the Colts already won the past 3 super bowls and Luck the last 3 passing titles. it's funny I was listening to WEEI Boston yesterday and again they mentioned something I've been harping on (once in my sig) as well. They posed the question are the Colts a threat to the Patriots? Well the conclusion was that the Colts have yet to even have a competitive game vs NE in the Andrew Luck era so that can't take them seriously until they see it. They are right, Luck turns into a turnover machine when he sees Tom Brady and Bill Belechick standing on the opposing sideline. Maybe that changes in 2015 :idk:.

For the record I do think Luck is one of the best young QB's in the game just not the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ like many consider him. I don't want this post perceived in a way where I think he sucks because that is not the case.

Luck has been pretty good since getting drafted. He replaced Peyton Manning on a very good team. A great situation for him.
RT has had less to work with, and frankly Luck was further ahead than him when drafted because RT only played QB for 1.5 seasons in college.
Since then, RT has made the most progress, and from the adversity he has faced, possibly poised to leap past Luck this year.
The Fins are finally talented enough to make the playoffs. Whether the players make the key plays that will get us over the hump, that remains to be seen.
As of right now, Luck is, by a slight margin, the better clutch player. Can RT make those clutch plays on a regular basis?
Regarding the wins. Our defense and coaching staff folded the end of the last 2 seasons. I don't blame RT for that.
