Maurice Smith, Miami Dolphins – 90.0
Smith was active against the run and the pass, posting PFF grades of 78.7 and 80.4 in those areas, respectively. The 2017 undrafted free agent allowed just one reception for eight yards on plays where he was the primary defender in coverage, and came away with an interception too. He was impressive as a tackler also, with zero misses from the five solo and two assists he attempted.

Seems to have already passed Walt Aikens at the #4 safety spot....but he would likely have to beat him out on ST's to stick. Could Aikens could be a surprise cut? I don't see us keeping 5 safeties. Rizi loves Aikens though and he was just extended for 2 years. $1.3M dead cap hit.

Could be another diamond in the rough as a Georgia safety (Reshad Jones). Transferred from Alabama and Saban has recruited some good ones there.

I would hate to lose Smith because Aikens is a better player on Special Teams. Surely someone can step up and take Aikens role.
