PFT: Brian Gaine "likely" leaving

So our new Gm, Philbin skipped the Sr bowl. Our puppet GM Hickey wasn't even there, I do believe. And Gaine will likely tell Miami to get bent when they ask him for his Sr Bowl reports. People were saying it wasn't a big deal for Philbin to not be there. Now it seems he def. should have been.

Maybe the Sr Bowl isn't that big of a deal, idk. Just not a good look

Or....he is going to be a professional and handle his responsibilities like a pro. Your kind of stretching things don't ya think?

C-YA!!!

now you and jeffy can play beer pong and fist bump over good times running...eerrr ruining the dolphins.

then back to playing more madden football.

There is talk that Mark Dominik will replace Gaine.

My guess is that Gaine will stay until the draft and Dominik will replace him in May.

Professional? His employer jerked him around, lied to him and flat out went with anyone but him for a promotion! Gaine was to say the least respectable through this disgusting process. Like Hickey who held Gaines role in Tampa and was about to be fired it is time to move on for Gaine. His professionalism will earn him a spot with another franchise. I wasn't on board with hiring Gaine as our gm, but I sure as he'll respect him for how he conducted himself.

You realize that just because Philbin/Hickey weren't there doesn't mean the team didn't have scouts there? Every NFL team had scouts there. Chill.

Nubs - I have learned to listen when you make a comment like "there is talk..."
Effectively that would mean that the roles are reversed. Clearly Hickey's experience is evaluating college players. What is Mark Dominik's area of expertise?

No need for Philbin to be there. He can only evaluate by looking at the tape... :chuckle:

Where did you hear this? I would actually be intrigued by that set up. It's not like the Bucs are devoid of talent, they have good talent in the spots we need it.. LB, RB, OL.. They just couldn't nail a QB.

Saw Andrew Abramson mention it and a Buccaneers reporter say it also.

HICKEY is a personel man. i cant be ANY HAPPIER about this hire. he has kept on evaluating and many of the guys coming into the draft he already knows about. he will watch the senior bowl tapes [probably has been watching] and the game itself. i am NOT totally miffed at the lack of presence simply because hickey IS A PERSONNEL MAN first and foremost.

were not talking about a kuhn who has never been a PERSONNEL guru or farmer who has dealt only with the pro players. hickey has had his fingers on the pulse of college ball forever and that is a HUGE diff.

i am just giggly right now. it whittled down to 3 guys after gamble was out for me. xander, hickey, licht. PERSONNEL men. the thing we have needed most.

when a gm is given the boot, his right hand man USUALLY goes with him. ross made the ABSOLUTE right decision for all intent and purpose passing over irelands right hand man [equivalent to the boot as gaine most likely wont stay].

hickey has been the "victim" of the same thing. as i mentioned, the gm leaving usually has his right hand man going with him and in doing so, sometimes the baby gets thrown out with the bath water!

i dont see that in gaines situation because our talent pool has been some of the very worst in the nfl and by ALL reports, gaine was INSTRUMENTAL in the scouting and decisions on the players brought in from the draft to f/a. HICKEY on the other hand is a PROVEN, BIG TIME talent guy. that doofus coach [that the players are glad is gone] along with the unexpected complete meltdown of their young qb was a knot hole in the hard wood for tampa last year. those two things gets people fired. happens. but, glennon who has risen up and looks real good for the bucs is ANOTHER of hickeys guys. 2 pretty damn good qb grabs in a couple short years. look at how long it took us to find ONE!! CARL NICKS, i was bummed we didnt land him was an awsome f/a move. unfortunately, he got hurt, badly early in the bucs season. therre losing hasnt ben from lack of personel but from recent bad coaching and a couple bad luck incidents, nicks getting hurt and freemon bombing.

in a nutshell, the tampa bay buccaneers have brought in or drafted the very best talent, maybe second only to the 49ers with the broncos in the mix. the bucs are LOADED with talent and have been since hickey has been involved with that franchise. what they did last year with draft and free agency was an awsome combination. revis, glennon, banks, da'quon bowers, all big time, out of the gate contributors and are a better collective DRAFT talent than we have had in YEARS!! gm dominic has been getting handed massive talent pools for some time. but remember, DOMINIC the bucs gm is the one who sends up the name to the podium. but, those players all got there through hickey.

a little snipit from WALTER FOOTBALL on last years bucs:

Tampa Bay made some other solid choices, but the one pick that really sticks out was Mike Glennon in the third round. I think general manager Mark Dominik sent a terrible message to his players by selecting the N.C. State signal-caller. The team seemed to quit last year when Dominik dealt Aqib Talib, as there was apparent frustration because it seemed like the front office didn't think it could win now. Dominik is once again doing the same thing. Instead of helping this group win by giving Josh Freeman a tight end or slot receiver to work with, Dominik spent a valuable pick on the future. It's like he can't make up his mind.

ok. his canning definitely had some office politics involved. and even though those choices ended up being the RIGHT ONES, [talib was a knucklehead and had a rep of being a trouble maker clear back in his college days, he gets a pass on that one], sounds like the front office was already set on making him the skapegoat, even after all those choices mentioned worked out BIG TIME!! but, they still canned him.

gm, his right hand man and the head coach [who was a dolt] all canned in one swoop. that coach killed them. look at how long the 49ers collected big time talent, high 1st and 2nd round choices. and they just couldnt win. there qb choice smith, looked like a sure bust. and then........ THEY GOT THE RIGHT COACH!! and all that talent that was there for so long came to life and over night, the 9ers became a power house.

that team is LOADED with talent and has been for years but all those guys got canned. i see more office politics and clash in this move as the main reason for dominic and his right hand man hickey getting the boot. if HICKEY can get us a 3rd of the talent he got in tampa, were on our way.

obviously, hickey is a first rate talent guy. no doubt there. BUT, we need to see come draft day when its on HIM to make the selection. thats where it counts. you bring in a truck load of talent but then make the wrong choice, or take guys in the WRONG SPOTS as ireland was notorious for. if he can run the draft as well as he scouts talent, we just hit the JACKPOT!!

AND FACE IT! all this "he is a puppet pic, a friend of philbins", blaaaahhhh-blaaaaah. everyone was becoming just fine with GAINE being the guy as "he fits in well and is friends with aponte and philbin".

ok. fine. getting along is good. but, like in gaine's case, he brings almost NOTHING to the table as a talent guy and was, as reported, INSTRUMENTAL in bringing in the talent for jeff ireland. not good on your resume!!

so now, we have hickey who is TRULY a big time talent guy AND he gets along with philbin and obviously aponte and ross. HOW IS THIS BAD ALL OF A SUDDEN?

and early on in this search, remember, when hickey came in for his interview, the sports media guys all said, "he hit it out of the park"!! his interview totally suprised the finz even though he and philbin have known each other for some time. so all this, "HE WAS THE SCRAPS! EVERYONE ELSE GOOD DIDNT WANT THE JOB" is nonsense. they were into hickey early on and HE was the guy to beat, not gaine as i predicted. i made a reference a couple days back in a thread where i talked about the h/c job search after sparano. early on, 1st week, philbins name came up. he did a quick interview and was never talked about again. his son had died and most thought he was done for the year as far as the nfl. then, after a dozen interviews, BAM!! joe philbin!! no one saw it coming.

this seems to be ross's m/o and frankly, i like it!! i dont think farmer or bug eyes ceserio were EVER after the job. bill sent bug eyes over for whatever reason. i can think of half a dozen. farmer i dont think ever wanted to leave his team and he maybe though he was going to be a token hire with limited power. i dont believe for a SECOND that bug eyes ceserio was ever actually offered the job. and with hickey "hitting it out of the park" in his interview and being a friend of philbins, why would they jump off of him for a jack of all trades, master of none new england guy? i think for some reason, billichek told him to go interview with miami, another half a dozen reasons why scenerio. he wasnt interviewing with ANYONE and then out of the blue he decides to interview with miami? naaaaahhh.

i think there was NO offer to ceserio and i think HICKEY was the guy to beat after his "out of the park" interview. the haters [media and fanz] are going to keep on hating as they have all along with mis information and spin and rumor and inuendo. but i think mr ROSS made the right choice and obviously [i had serious doubts] knew we needed a REAL bonafide personnel man above all else.

there may just be hope for this ross guy after all!! and i admit, and had posted that i thought gaine was the guy all along. sometimes its GREAT to be wrong!!

Gaine can biggy size my Whopper and fries at BK.

Didn't see this thread until now. Yes, this reminds me of the Ed Orgeron situation at USC. Can't expect a guy to remain in a lesser role when he thought he deserved the top spot.
