Derrick Shelby, the defensive lineman who was suspended by the Dolphins last week after he was arrested, is now back with the team.
A league source tells PFT that Shelby was reinstated by the Dolphins.
After Shelby was booked for trespassing and resisting arrest, the Dolphins acted quickly by suspending him. But personal-conduct violations are supposed to be handled at the league level, not the team level. It wouldn’t be surprising if the NFL Players Association raised concerns behind the scenes about whether Shelby was being treated fairly — especially considering that Shelby has a very different story about what happened than the police have put forward, and Shelby hasn’t had his day in court.

In today's nfl it's not even like the Fins had a choice. They are almost forced to do the PC obligatory one game suspension for anything involving a player and the police. Not defending Raw Dog 79 but it just seems this is the direction the nfl is going.

Im sure HIPAA was violated in some way, shape, or form when this announcement was made.

Damn you government!

Barry Jackson on Shelby being reinstated:

Monday 8 p.m. update:

According to a person with direct knowledge, the Dolphins have reinstated defensive end Derrick Shelby, who was suspended for the past week after he was charged with resisting arrest without violence and trespassing at a Fort Lauderdale establishment.

Neither the team nor Shelby's representation was willing to discuss the issue tonight. His attorney said he was not authorized to comment.

According to Pro Football Talk, the player's union might have been unhappy with the Dolphins for suspending Shelby without pay. A source confirmed there has been contact between Shelby's camp and the player's union.

A teammate expects Shelby to try to get back the money he lost during the suspension, but Shelby's camp has not confirmed that.

The Dolphins will need to make a roster move to create room for Shelby on the 53-man roster.

Shelby's usual workload was filled Sunday by Terrence Fede (16 snaps), Chris McCain (12) and Anthony Johnson (nine).

The team over reacted IMHO.
Ross ought to suspend Philbin due to decisions that were detrimental to winning.

But the important question still remains. Did he get the ZPack?

I would rather a team stand up and do what is right and not what "they had to do because of public pressure". I have no respect for an owner of a business that does what the Dolphins did to Shelby. I say this assuming that he did not agree to the suspension behind closed doors.
