Last week, Jeff Fisher supposedly was leaning toward picking the Dolphins. Then, he supposedly was on the verge of choosing the Rams.
Now, according to Mike Lombardi of NFL.com, Fisher has flip-flopped back to the Fins, and a decision could come Thursday.
Though Lombardi may indeed be right, this continues to come off as nothing more than a high-stakes leverage game, with Fisher playing one franchise against the other in the hopes of extracting the best possible deal. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but at some point Rams owner Stan Kroenke or Dolphins owner Stephen Ross — or both — need to stand up and say, “Enough.”
When it comes to former NFL coaches looking for another shot, Fisher is the prettiest girl at an ugly stick ball. With six playoff appearances in 17 seasons as an NFL head coach, he’s benefiting from the fact that Tony Dungy, Bill Cowher, and Jon Gruden have decided to stay home. Any of them would have supplanted Fisher as the must-have coach of 2012.
So when will someone from the Rams or the Dolphins have the sack to say so? Instead, these two franchises are allowing themselves to be played like fools, waiting around for Fisher to make up his mind, while trying to get more money from each one, instead of moving on to the next candidate.
And, yes, the next candidate may not have the same name recognition and/or sizzle. Mike McCarthy, Mike Tomlin, and Sean Payton had little name recognition, either. But things have worked out just fine for the Packers, Steelers, and Saints.
Besides, shouldn’t Kroenke be disturbed by the fact that Fisher’s camp leaked the notion that a possible relocation of the franchise to Los Angeles could become an issue in the negotiations? Kroenke should have contacted Fisher’s agent, Marvin Demoff, and demanded an immediate statement from Fisher refuting the report. And if Fisher refused, Kroenke should have moved on.
At this point, both Kroenke and Ross would be wise to move on. It’s obvious that they’re being played against each other. In the end, one will be left holding the bag.
Over the long term, the guy who’s holding the bag could have the better chance of ultimately holding a Lombardi Trophy.

chill dolfans he is coming here

I agree with whoever wrote this. If he doesn't make a decision today, move on and hire Mike Zimmer. Enough of this ****.

Ahh I don't even care anymore

Sure he is the big name coach available, sure he'd bring credibility back to the franchise, he'd bring experience and most importantly stability.

BUT, he is holding the fins ransom. His other choice is the Rams. the effin' St. Louis Rams. Probably the worst franchise of the 32, one which has a very high possibility of moving to L.A. soon, they completely suck. Add to that the monster contract and high authority position Miami has apparently offered him and he still doesn't see the fins as an obvious choice. I wasn't sold on him originally just because I don't think a run first coaching philosophy is such a great idea in what is becoming a passing league, and every passing day just makes me want him less and less.

Tell Fisher he has until 5pm to make a decision because we have to move on to our next choice......if he doesnt then name Todd Bowles as HC at 5:05......Fisher will tear this team apart and I'm not comfortable with him making personel moves

I Think we are close with a couple of added players in the right positions, i am not ready to tear this team apart which will happen under Fisher.....

Capt. Mediocrity is playing us like a cheap trick! If we end up with him it is because were overpaid!

I would hire Chud today and move on!

Seems to be a new Fisher story everytime I log on here

Because this team has been so successful the way it's currently constructed, right?

Am I the only one that just doesn't care anymore?

Nope. I'm with you. If I were Ross I would throw my last offer on the table right now and tell Fisher that the offer is only good until 4 pm today, and that at that point the Dolphins will be moving in a different direction.

I wanted Fisher as head coach, but if this rumor of naming him VP of Football Operations is accurate I want no part of him. Giving the keys to the kingdom to the head coach never seems to have a good ending.

Why does everyone need a coach to be named at this instant? None of us...Florio included...knows what is happening in terms of the negotiations. We do not know if it is about money, power, localities, does he want another job next year etc.

Florio is such a douche lately. He has been so limited in his insight.

Its like this, Fisher is having to choose between two unattractive women. He is stalling and hoping an attractive woman comes along and sweeps him off his feet.

I would love it if he picked us, and we came back and said, "Well, thanks, we might hire you, but we're really torn and we want to wait and talk to Philbin again. We'll let you know - you don't mind waiting do you?"
