DOLPHINS TRADING TAYLOR TO BUCS?

Posted by Michael David Smith on April 26, 2008, 7:08 p.m.
Stephen Holder of the St. Petersburg Times reports that the Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have already agreed to a trade that would send veteran defensive end Jason Taylor to Tampa.
The trade would apparently send the Bucs’ second-round pick (52nd overall) to Miami, in exchange for Taylor, the 2006 NFL Defensive Player of the Year who has reportedly said that he would like to finish his career somewhere other than Miami. It is not clear whether any other picks would be involved in the trade.
Taylor has two years left on his contract and is scheduled to earn a combined $17 million in those two seasons, so it’s likely that the Buccaneers would want him to restructure his contract, but there has been no word about such an agreement being reached between Taylor and the Bucs or any other team.
When asked about a potential trade, Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden was noncommittal, saying, “There have been some trade rumors and I don’t think we’re any different than anybody else. When you’re talking about high-profile players, we’re going to pick up the phone and see what’s going on. It’s part of our job.â€

pft.com, getting very pumped

Well they better hurry up the Bucs Pic real soon!!

I smell people playing hardball with us they know we want him out, I think he might actually stay on the FINS untill after the draft and people try to than say we will give you next years picks or something.

I'm guessing this is contingent on a player being there for the Dolphins or not being there for the Bucs. Going to be interesting heading into that pick.

saw somewhere that adam schefter reported 2nd 4th and 6th next year...was on pft blog

I don't care what is offered by anyone, I want to keep JT at all costs...let the flaming begin. He is worth more to this team, than anyone could offer us for him IMO.

Odd. He has the exact same kind of build as Gaines Adams. What team needs two lanky right DEs?

I think along the same lines as what you do, but I think this trade is inevitable and its going to happen sooner or later. We are rebuilding and this is really the hard part of doing that. Hopefully we can take comfort in knowing that JT and Zach are going to be playing for contenders next year if we do indeed trade JT to the Bucs. It sucks, but its part of rebuilding. One player doesn't make a team, and we have a lot of holes to fill.

In what world does a rebuilding team need a 34 year old dancer?

We don't need him for rebuilding, we need him for team loyality and leadership. Because he has played in more games back to back for us than any other player in our franchise history, and just because a new regime has come in doesn't take away all the sacrifice and accomplishments he has given this team.

I guess what I'm getting at, is we have a lot more holes to fill than the two Jason's picks would give us. Its not like this draft is making us a Super Bowl team overnight, rebuilding takes time, and JT only has 2 years left with us. If we don't want to renew after that I'm totally cool with it.

Thank you for proving my point as to why we need to trade him and get a guy who will be here for a lot longer.
