RICKY LOOKS GOOD

Early word out of Miami is that running back Ricky Williams looks better than the team expected in his return to football after a one-year layoff.

He's in better shape than the team anticipated, and not as light as many feared -- especially since he was down to 190 pounds not long ago.

Williams will get every chance to get his football legs back in the short term, given that No. 2 overall draft pick Ronnie Brown still hasn't signed a contract.

There you have it folks. Ricky Williams on the field is still Ricky Williams. As Leigh Steinberg was quoted, genetically he's in a different area code. At 215 pounds he doesn't have the same power he had at 225 pounds, but he's got 2 or 3 months to get back to 225 pounds.

215 is alright for now, and he has time to get up to 220-225 considering he sits out the first 4 games

He gained 25 pounds in a heck of a hurry! I believe he has been working out for longer than anybody knows!

And Saban says he wants him in the low 220's. I guess Saban likes his backs to be a bit quicker.

Let me tell you. Health notwithstanding, there is no better tandem in the NFL than Ricky and Ronnie. It is a rare combination of talents that may even allow the Dolphins to attempt to repeat the success of Auburn at the college level with Caddy and Ronnie.

I wonder if Seth McKinney has said a word to Ricky yet, lol. Frankly, I wonder if Seth McKinney will be our opening day starter. He'd better realize that if you miss blocks, you don't get paid...and better not pull any crap holding punches for when Ricky's in the game.

I agree, I heard mussle is hard to put on that fast. I work out on my own and its hard that fast. I would like to see what kind of program thay have him on. I prob. would have to quit my job to work out that much.

I love how ESPN played McKinney's comments from last year blasting Ricky on Sportscenter this morning, the media is praying for a meltdown in Miami.

That is his job. Not to mention he has endless resources at his disposal. I know he used to get his blood tested to see what benefited him the most, I'm sure he still does.

It's different if your muscles are already use to being that big. Your body has good memory in that if you've been 235 pounds of lean muscle within the past couple of years, age notwithstanding, you can probably get back to there a lot quicker than a guy who has not been at that weight yet and is trying to reach it.

In the case of Ricky's ascent from 190 pounds to 215 pounds within a month or two, he was only down to 190 as a result of sickness (I heard it was some kind of infection). He slid right back up to 205 pounds in no time, probably even was able to do that within a week or two, and slide up to 215 pounds in the remaining 3 or 4 weeks. Getting to 225 will go slower, but 3 months is practically a lifetime for a guy who has been 235 to 240 pounds of solid muscle within the past year or two.

He has. Some people talk like he just started about 2 months ago. But He has been working out longer than that. Even if has only been working out 2 or 3 months, he could still easily have gotten to the weight he is at. Once you have that muh muscle mass, it's not all that hard to get it back.

I think it's appropriate. He is one of the big uglies that are blocking for Ricky, and they had an openly waged war of words last year. After Seth took a jab at Ricky, Ricky jabbed back and said that maybe if the OL hadn't let so many defenders through to where Ricky nearly had his head taken off on every play, maybe he wouldn't be retiring.

Now Seth's got to block for him again. No other person on the offensive line has blocked for Ricky before. Seth and Wade Smith are the only ones I think, and now they are both competing for one spot on the OL (lol). IMO Seth has been a disappointment since he was drafted. If he's got problems with making the blocks for Ricky, he can get sent to the bench in favor of Wade Smith the first time the coaches sense that he pulled up lame blocking for Ricky.

Well CK Seth and Rick are at least within 5 feet of each other.

LOL Thanks MD. Looks like the same Ricky to me. His calves look fine, but his thighs look a little smaller.

He is fast thats a fact, but seriously if he is 215 he's hiding it somewhere. His legs used to stand out big time, and now, well, he is skinny. Sam Madison looked bigger. Maybe it was his clothes being extra baggy?

That Bottom Pic shows me he isnt far off at all.. If it was a regular offseason ( he wasnt under this scrutiny) it would take more than a casual observer to think he was looking a bit smallish for the season.
