PFW associate editor Jeff Fedotin:

“Unlike the Buccaneers, Raiders and Giants, the Dolphins finished with a winning record, but Miami continues to disappoint like no other team in the NFL. An all-star-laden team, they have missed the playoffs for the second consecutive year. This team went 11-5 and made the playoffs in 2001 with Lamar Smith at running back. Despite greatly upgrading the running game with the addition of Ricky Williams, this team has regressed. With DBs Sammy Knight, Brock Marion, Sam Madison and Patrick Surtain, they have a Pro Bowl player at each position in the secondary. They added LB Junior Seau to a defensive mix that already included LB Zach Thomas and DEs Adewale Ogunleye and Jason Taylor. How can a team in which eight of its 11 defenders have made the Pro Bowl miss the playoffs? An even better question is: How does such a veteran team come out with a lackluster effort and lose to the second-year Texans in Week One when it has had the whole offseason to prepare? It may not correct the problem, but head coach Dave Wannstedt’s head will roll as a result.â€Â

Its NINE starters on Defense and a total of ten defensive players. Every starter except Chester and Greenwood have made the Pro Bowl at least once and then add in Burnett and we have ten. Or was this note written back after the Houston loss and before Ogunleye had made it?
