Exactly what I feared the Browns drafted Brady Quinn and according to Savage Quinn is much better then any QB coming out in this years draft. Thanks alot Scam for passing on a future NFL Star in order to sign a kick returner.
Give Phil Savage credit: His advanced scouting for the 2008 draft was spot on.
In explaining last year why the Browns were willing to give up a first-round pick in this year's draft, Savage said he liked Brady Quinn better than any of the options available this year. He was exactly right. Boston College's Matt Ryan is the only quarterback assured of going in the first round this year, but Quinn towers over him in ability. Beyond Ryan, Louisville's Brian Brohm is the next-best quarterback, but he could slide to the second round.
Obviously, Savage had no idea Derek Anderson was going to flourish into an NFL starter. So he entered last year's draft knowing the Browns were going to need a quarterback within the next two years. He wanted Quinn last year so the rookie could sit for a season and learn, then be ready to step in as the starter this year. It's not going to work out that way, but his strategy was flawless nonetheless.
To bad we don't have that kind of GM with the Dolphins that can think out of the box and do not rely on internet hacks for draft pick advice.
