Exactly what I feared the Browns drafted Brady Quinn and according to Savage Quinn is much better then any QB coming out in this years draft. Thanks alot Scam for passing on a future NFL Star in order to sign a kick returner.

Give Phil Savage credit: His advanced scouting for the 2008 draft was spot on.
In explaining last year why the Browns were willing to give up a first-round pick in this year's draft, Savage said he liked Brady Quinn better than any of the options available this year. He was exactly right. Boston College's Matt Ryan is the only quarterback assured of going in the first round this year, but Quinn towers over him in ability. Beyond Ryan, Louisville's Brian Brohm is the next-best quarterback, but he could slide to the second round.
Obviously, Savage had no idea Derek Anderson was going to flourish into an NFL starter. So he entered last year's draft knowing the Browns were going to need a quarterback within the next two years. He wanted Quinn last year so the rookie could sit for a season and learn, then be ready to step in as the starter this year. It's not going to work out that way, but his strategy was flawless nonetheless.

To bad we don't have that kind of GM with the Dolphins that can think out of the box and do not rely on internet hacks for draft pick advice.

yeah, while i think we all know this, you and me are in the minority in wishing miami took quinn - although i don't know how. yes he is a pompous pretty boy assjack but the dude has all the tools to be a stud in this league. but 'matty ice' is definitely not the answer.

I have my own weapon. When can we make the trip? :woot:

I've had this convo with friends about where Matt Ryan (with the talent he has today) would be drafted last year and my guess is he'd be selected in the 2nd maybe 3rd round.

oh and
:banhim2:

Would anyone really expect Phil Savage to say anything different?

Consider the source.

You must have missed the part where we fired Randy Mueller and hired Parcells and Ireland. Parcells and Ireland are in a league above Phil Savage.

As for the story you posted, what makes Jason Lloyd of the Journal Register News Service a draft guru? The jury is still out on Quinn, can't be a success sitting on the bench, so who knows if Savage made the right call.

Most draft "experts" think Matt Ryan is a better prospect going into the draft then Quinn was. This draft doesn't have a star QB like Carson Palmer, but there are some good ones early(Ryan, Brohm, Henne, Flacco).

I don't think taking Ryan is a smart move with the other needs we have, but taking a guy like Brohm, Henne or Flacco in the second round would be wise.

Then why do you want Matt Ryan if he is so much worse than a guy who, at that point, couldn't beat out a guy who had been an annual underachiever?

Blah, blah, blah ...

"...do not rely on internet hacks for draft pick advice."
HUH?

You mean hacks like Jason Lloyd, Journal Register News Service - from your link.

Soapy, maybe it's time that you moved into the building next to your man-crush. That way you could spend untold hours/days/months staring at the love of your life - Brady Quinn ... or hasn't the restraining order expired yet?

Seriously, let it go already.

This shocks me. I totally expected Phil Savage to tell the press that he wished he hadn't traded away this year's first to get Quinn. Honestly, what did you think he'd tell the press?

More importantly, why are we still talking about Brady Quinn?

It isnt the minority, IMO. Here maybe it is, where most where the aqua glasses all the time.

Either way we have to move one.
