I think its time to stop hiring guys with no head coaching experience. This is the trend I see from Miami the past few years and its not working. I say just hire Polian and Dungy and knock out two birds with one stone. No more Ireland and no more idiot Philben!

I think a coach with experience is needed for this team. Someone with deerskins on the wall.

A first timer might work, but the experience factor might be needed.

Here's the thing though...

Jimmy Johnson was a proven coach didn't work out.
Wanny had head coaching experience in the NFL didn't work out
Nick Saban was the best coach in college football didn't work out.

It's all about who the coach you get hires as assistants and how he controls the team...

Cam Cameron was hired to be a glorified OC. The defense was great under Saban and Dom Capers' watch resulting in Jason Taylor winning Defensive POY. Randy Mueller and Wayne Huizenga felt they needed an offensive coach to match with the defensive staff. They picked Cam Cameron over Mike Tomlin (who it has since been confirmed was by far a better interview).

Tony Sparano was hired because he would do what Parcells wanted. Remember before we even hired him Todd Bowles, Kacey Rodgers, and Paul Pasqualoni were confirmed to become assistants with the team. It also came out RIGHT AFTER WE HIRED SPARANO that Parcells openly admitted that Leslie Frazier was a better interview and if it weren't for the fact he knew Tony had the same mind set as him (or would be his puppet whatever you prefer) Frazier was the obvious hire.

Philbin? I actually feel for the most part Ross handled the hiring process better. If for whatever reason he gets fired and doesn't work, I won't blame Ross for that. Well I'll put it this way, I won't blame Ross for hiring Philbin but I will blame him for wasting quite a bit of time messing around with Fisher.

Point being that it's always a crap shoot on who will be a head coach. Mike McCarthey got hired after being the OC for the worst offense in football, Mike Tomlin was only a DC for one year, John Harbaugh spent most of his time as either a secondary or ST coach, Sean Payton hadn't been an OC since 2002 (he was hired in 06), Andy Reid has never been a coordinator, Chuck Pagano had 1 year as a DC (2 if you count 1 year at North Carolina).

It truly is a crapshoot.

We've tried every route, but as I look at this regime, there were too many things that could go wrong.
1. Unsurety in the GM-we would not have been shocked to see Ireland fired at the end of any season
2. New Head Coach-and I don't just mean new to us, but new altogether
3. Rookie QB-who also does not have alot of experience play QB in college
For this to work, all the right pieces need to be in place AND there has to be alot of patience to allow people to grow into their roles. Marino had and experienced Shula, while Shula had an experienced Unitas. Sometimes having the rookie coach and QB works, but only if they are both great.

Again, it's been a season and a half.

An uninspired season and a half that in recent weeks has seen our team come out completely flat after having extra prep time for two games, one against a division rival.

Jimmy Johnson got us in the playoffs and drafted great defensive players! Surtain , Taylor , Zach and so on.

I see a team that is steadily getting worse instead of better.

Teams take on the personality and fire of the head coach. I'm of the belief that a coach having this experience as a stud OC or DC is overrated. You need a smart, organized leader with some fire and imagination. In my opinion, this team plays the way Philbin appears to be; dry with no fire.

Actually Parcells said Rex Ryan was the better interview then gave the Jets the thumbs up to hire him......Rex may not be the best coach in the league but their isn't a better Defensive game planner in the league right now....

Honestly I think the best coach we had since J.Johnson left was the "quiter" that left for Alabama, we need a coach with character and inteligence, just not another quiter. I think a Gruden/Cowher would be great. OC/DC I would consider: Sean McDermott (Panthers DC), Vic Fangio (Niners DC), Bob Sutton (Chiefs DC), Jay Gruden (Bengals OC), Rick Dennison (Texans OC). Coaches under the hot seat I would bring are Gary Kubiak (Texans), Mike Shanahan (Redskins) and Mike Smith (Falcons).

We need to replace Ireland ASAP, and from the players we have I would only retain: TE Clay, OC Pouncey, OT McKinney, QB Tannehill, WR Mathews, WR Gibson, WR Hartline, PR/KR Thigpen, K Sturgis, P Fields, DE Wake, DE/DT Odrick, ILB Ellerbe and CB Grimes. Give Jordan, Sims, Taylor, Davis, Shelby, Soliai and Garner another chance to stick with the team. Next year we need to search for a OT, OG, FS, OLB, DT, RB and WR.

It was a huge mistake letting AJ Francis go, he was a force on the run and we are UGLY at defending it.

Actually if somehow Ryan gets fired..... if he accepts a DC job and you pair him with a good O coach like Mike Shanahan I think we will be in heaven!!! But we need both Shanahan and Ryan to get fired and the Ross to go for it!!! It would be a dream come true.
