I wonder if he will be able to coach on Sunday? I'm surprised there isn't more info on this story. A coach missing 2 days of practice late in the week before a key matchup is big news, but I don't even think it's been picked up nationally yet

Philbin was not with the team again today, dealing with a personal family matter. Coyle said yesterday he expects Philbin back "shortly."

If a player missed two days of practice Philbin would sit him. Wonder if the same rules apply to the head coach?

I am shocked that some of the news hounds locally and nationally have not been more interested in this. Football coaches are known for coaching through everything. The reason must be significant of why he is not there.

I hope all is right with Joe and that this issue with him is handled. Hopefully, this is not a distraction come Sunday. Without a veteran coach in the building, not having Joe this week at practice might be bad for this Sunday....yes, I did give Joe a compliment.

I have a gut feeling it's not good. I don't support him as the coach(as my post a few moments ago) but I do support him as a family man. I hope all is well.

I agree, I haven't heard anything about it from the national media which is odd.....not having a HC for 2 days is huge...I hope his family is ok.....

I really hope Philbin is ok but even if he cann't be there Lazor runs the offense , Coyle and Rizzo run the D and specials.
There should not be much fall out because on game day Joe just throws an occasional red flag or two.
The coordinators call all the plays.
Still i hope he and his family are ok.

Does that mean Coyle runs the show if Philbin can't go Sunday?

He's been here the longest so probably yes.

If this was serious enough to miss 2 days of practice, you gotta wonder if his mind will be in the right place on gameday...

Nonsense. It would depend on the reason for the absence.

If you can find an example of a player missing Wednesday and Thursday practice and still playing in a game under Philbin I'll stand corrected. But he's more strict about this than most head coaches I've seen. Steve McNair for example went for weeks at a time without practicing when he was in Tennessee, but almost always played.
