Philbin to expand Bush's role in passing game

I think Reggie could get between 1500-2000 yards rushing/recv 2012

He isn't built for that though, he will break down by Week 6 if Miami tries to use him too much

I'd be nice if he ended up contributing like this guy used to:

What is this concept? I mean wow, using a player in a way that best utilizes his abilities, what a novel idea...who would have thunk it? :bobdole:

It was criminal that last year Bush was not used more in the passing game. To my mind it was one of the most glaring mistakes/shortcomings of Daboll's (or Sparano's) system. I mean everyone and their dog knows that Bush is most dangerous in space, as can be seen by what he did in New Orleans, so in many ways it shows how lacking Sparano/Daboll were as scheme designers that they could not get Bush in those positions. Lets hope that Philbin/Sherman can follow up on this promise, as we will need Bush in the passing game this year with no clear target in our WR corps.

Maybe all this misuse is why the previous regime is no longer here. I disagree that all we have are 3rd string receivers, but we'll see, won't we.

With marshall gone bush is now the best receiving threat we have. Bess is a great underneath route runner but other than that he is not very good.

I think 700 yards rushing and 700 receiving would be all that we can ask for. If we can get a healthy D Thomas into the flow this season we could have a very good backfield. He had hamstring problems all last season which is something that only gets better with complete rest.

R Bush showed IMO a new and improved work ethic when he came here and got into great shape. I think that he bought himself another couple of seasons if he keeps it up. Even C Johnson cannot run between the tackles but they do it 3-5 times a game to keep the defense honest. Plus CJ and Bush can turn some of those inside runs to the outside.

CJ has turned in two declining seasons in a row after his big 2,000 yard one in 2009. At only 5'11" and 190 pounds it makes you wonder if the pounding has get to him. Once again, R Bush had his best season ever rushing the football. I think some of this was dedication on R Bush's part to prove himself while I think CJ got too much into his new contract squabbles.

For me, R Bush is a slightly slower CJ who can catch the ball. I also think that R Bush is far far more dangerous coming out of the backfield as a pass catcher then lining up as a WR. I remember near the end of the season him starting to catch wheel routes out of the backfield for big plays. This was helped by the fact that Matt Moore has the touch to drop the ball down to him over the LB.

I hope we never go back to the 3-5 dump off passes like we used to do with R Brown etc. R Bush etc should be hit on the move so he can make YAC.

I disagree that we have nothing but 3rd rate WRs. I think both Hartline and Bess are solid WRs and I believe that given a chance, C Gates can make some big plays and stretch the field. Gates was really underused. I think we threw less then 15 passes his way and had zero reverses, WR screens etc for him. We need to get him into the game.

I do not want to get into this debate again but I really believe that at least in some games, we were forcing the ball to Marshall too often. I know myself from playing different sports, from football to basketball etc, that if you feel like the ball is not going to come your way, you start to slack off. If Bess and Hartline are told that that are the guys, I think their game will step up. And all of our WRs are young, in fact we have the youngest WR corp in the NFL.

I like C Clay both as a pass catching TE and as a pass catching FB. A fast FB running a 20 yard route really creates mismatches.

I'm more worried about our defense then I am our offense. If we do not add at least one other pass rusher to go with Cam Wake it will be a long season.

Soar of like Phibin said, we lost two players from last season. A WR in Marshall and the only other pass rusher we had in J Taylor.
