all of these quarterbacks in the upcoming draft have to many question marks. Phillip Rivers was considered by some people to be the best quarterback in the draft a few years ago. He was set records as a quarterback and became one of the best quarterbacks to play in college football. Many of you here say that you do not want to trade for a backup. Well this guy is no ordinary backup. He is in a situation where we will not be given the chance to start. That is because he is playing behind one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Also Phillip Rivers will only be 24 years old next year. He is not any older than any quarterback that is coming out. If we could get Phillip Rivers for a second round pick, it would be great value(not sure what the Chargers will be asking). We will need a quarterback that has the best chance to succeed. The guys in the draft are to risky for us. We need a quarterback that can play next year. A rookie would not be able to do this. We have half the season left so it will be interesting to see who we pick up next year. This is only my opinion and I know there are many topics on quarterbacks.... But what do you guys think. Is Phillip Rivers the best option for quarterback.

I don't think that it matters. San Diego will not let him go.

Finjim,

Not that this means he will be in Miami, but Rivers will not be in San Diego next year. They will keep Brees or Rivers, and it looks like Brees stays. Rivers will never allow them to keep him on the bench yet another year. My guess is he would hold out if that happened.

That being said, when he becomes available, I think youll see the Phins make a big push for him. In college you might be able to get by with a mediocre QB, but Saban knows you need a stud taking the snaps.

Rivers is a talented QB but we just havent seen enough of him plus trading for him would cost us big time in cap space, I would like to see that $ spent on Free Agents and the Draft.

How about we injure(joking) Vick this week so we can get a look at Matt Schaub?

Despite the argument of whether Philip Rivers is the best QB for us or not, the problem is we're going to have to give up A LOT and we would have to obtain his HUGE contract which is a lot of money for an unproven guy who has only played 2 games in the NFL. Personally, I would really love it if we got Rivers and he was the future QB of this team, I'm just hesistant of what we'd have to give up to acquire him and what we'd have to pay him.

If San Diego trades Rivers, they will be demanding a 1st round pick, and if the pick isn't high, they'll probably demand a mid round pick in addition to the 1st. We can't afford that, we have too many holes to fill on this team to trade away two mid-high round picks for a promising, yet unproven QB.

Why would they let a successful QB go in favor of an unproven rookie? Seriously if they trade Brees I'm going to question Smiths sanity. Brees has been solid for the last two years, and they won't trade success for questionmarks.

Im going to echo everyone on this post and agree that Rivers would be the best for our system. The guy is a pocket passer, hes accurate, and best of all hes young. The other guys coming out of the draft will take time and I wouldnt take Vince Young unless he was the last qb left, he just doesnt make good decisions IMO. I also think we'd have to give up alot to get Rivers; why is San Diego so greedy!? It would be alot easier if they just released him and bought him a plane ticket to Miami (thats a joke by the way)

Vince Young isn't comming out this year.

I might get bashed for this, but I'm sure San Diego would trade us Rivers for Chris Chambers and a 2nd rd pick. They don't have any play-making WR's over there and we could get a decent FA pick up or draft a good rookie WR to replace Chambers.
