This thread is perhaps better suited for a non-gameday, but I just wanted to hear some thoughts on the subject.

We've known for a good while now that the Jets are looking to add a #1 receiver. They were interested in Marshall, and now the tampering charges with respect to Crabtree are surfacing.

Meanwhile, many Phins fans feel strongly that this offense needs another playmaker at receiver.

Moving forward, perhaps this season as the trade deadline approaches, but more likely during the offseason, do you think the Jets and Phins will have the same goal of acquiring a #1 receiver? Will we be going after the same free agents and/or trade targets? Or do you think the Phins will continue to address the position the same way they did this offseason: by committee?

They should have addressed it this past off-season by signing Laverneus Coles. At least he had a familiarity with Pennington, and was a proven serviceable WR (not a gamebreaker but someone who could get the job done).

Personally I'm not a huge fan of WR by committee either, but I think it was more of a non-priority this offseason rather than an offensive philosophy. Could be wrong on that.

But if it *is* a priority moving forward, we'll likely be butting heads with the Jets for many of the same targets.

I dont expect any moves/trades unless it is to aquire more picks FOR US.. Dont expect us to pick anyone up until draft day

The hammer well might come down on the Jest for allegedly tampering with Crabtree by contacting and informing his agent that next year they'll draft him and pay him what he's after. Of course there are two sides to every story, but usually when there's so much smoke coming out of the Meadowlands (Favre injury non report and possible Marshall&Crabtree tampering), often there's actual fire. It looks like between them and the Cheatriots, we're playing in an underhanded division. So the question is, do we fight fire with fire? (some will say we already have by signing Smiley ala Haynesworth 12:01 FA deal). After watching Sanchez's velocity and accuracy in the second half yesterday, I'm no longer blase about them picking up a Marshall or Crabtree type. Fortunately there aren't that many who're available (hello Boldin).

Great points. Their offense will be quite dangerous for some time with a legit #1. But your last point about not many being available is what worries me...because I'd like to think we'd be looking to snag one too. It might be time to pull the trigger on that Boldin trade.

I agree... i think acquiring a #1 receiver is going to cost a hugh draft pick or a player who the coaches want to keep. we could talk names.. but it's unlikely we do trades.

I'm very happy we are building through the draft.

That being said.. this offseason.. with our 3rd draft.. I hope we make a few big offseason signings.

Dez Bryant is the guy we need. He's big, fist, hast unbelievable hands, and i quick enough that at 6'3" they let him return Kicks. But I hope Patrick Turner shows up at some point this season.

Where do you think he'll go in the draft?

I dont like Trades in the middle of a football season. I think its harder for a player to come over and learn the playbook. That might be why you dont see it happen as much.

I think both teams would like to add one but I dont think it will happen till the offseason.
