it has us listed as 8th overall right now, but shouldn't we be 7th and the pats be 8th, since we have a better conference record? doesn't the tiebreaker sequence go record > head 2 head > div record > conf. record?

it's not that big of a deal really...just making sure i'm not missing some sort of tiebreaker for the playoffs

we're in a three-way tie now. here's the tie-breaking procedures.
http://www.nfl.com/standings/tiebreakingprocedures

the first tie-breaker is head-to-head, meaning the best W-L percentage in games among the teams. currently, the Jets are 2-1 against the Pats and Dolphins, the Pats are 2-2 against the Dolphins and Jets and we're 1-2 against the Jets and Pats. so, we're still 3rd in the division.

No we are second. We have the same record(win %) as the Pats divisionally. We have the tiebreak right now due to conference play, we're a game better.

I know with 100% certainty that we should be in second place right now. It is head to head- div record- then common game percentage. We beat the pats with the common game percentage tie breaker.

8th overall in the "AFC", basically the very last place team in the conference with a shot at a playoff berth, heck they have the Bills 9th.

Wrong! Read the procedure in the previous post. That is correct. We only move ahead if we beat the Jets on the final game.

Incorrect.

I thought it was head to head, division, then conference?

This just in: The playoffs will NOT be starting this week. Instead, they start the first weekend in January, after we play the Jets.

You have to consider all of the teams in the tie. It's not just the Fish vs the Pats...it's Fish vs Pats vs Jets.

All in all, it really doesn't matter...we win out, or we are out.

just to clarify for everyone. it goes:

1. head to head

2. division

3. common games

4. conference games

Right, and so far ...

1.Miami/Pats are 1-1 w/ each other.

2.Pats & Dolphins are both 3-2 in Division.

3.In common games the Pats Lost to the Chargers (No other common games).

4. In conference play, Miami is 6-4, the Pats are 5-5.

So the question still stands, Why are the Pats ahead of the Dolphins? :err:

Fins

COMMON GAMES (- FOR PATS, + FOR FINS)
JETS- -1 THEY WON THEIR HOME GAME AGAINST THE JETS
SEA - 0
SD - +1
BUF - 0
DEN - 0
SEA - 0
STL – 0

this equals a tie in common games.....

So yeah, by that logic, we should be in second place but…
We are forgetting that this is a three way tie. Which if you look at the procedures, we get eliminated for this tie in the first step. In head to head play among the three, jets are 2-1, pats are 2-2, and fins are 1-2.
