We would all love for our team to come out of this draft with two solid-VG starters n the OL. Although this year's draft is better, and much deeper, last year draft would say that's not gonna happen.

There were 8 OL picked in the first round. Fisher was #1 overall, and had a horrible year at RT, #70 with a -17.8 grade. Joeckel was #2, played 5 games at RT with a -6.1 grade before going on IR. Johnson was #4, was #39, with a 0.2 grade, coming on late. Fluker was #11, was #38 with a 0.4 grade. Pugh was #19, and did OK, +2.5 on the run, -1.6 pass. Watson was #42, with a -6.1 grade after starting the last 5 games.

At OG, Cooper was #7, and was n IR the whle year. Warmack was #10, and was #50 with a grade of -5.6. Long was #20, and was #47 with a grade of -3.3.

Other than Watson, these were all top 20 picks, and no one did very well in their first year, with improvement likely. How well do you actually think we will do?

This is why we go ILB @ #19 bigger impact, less of a learning curve.. We could wait in this draft til the 3rd and 4th to solidify the Oline.. Defense wins Championships!

Would love a LB at 19 provided one is there worthy of that pic. I would be more comfortable with another vet for the line though.

I expect Xavier Su'a-Filo or Zack Martin will be the pick at #19 if still available. I understand that O-line talent is deep and we could wait to get someone decent in a later round and we haven't got a strong handle on Hickey's boldness/risk averse decision making, but I doubt that you walk away from a certainty.

That's too short sighted a way to look at it...lane Johnson's a future stud...cooper could be if he can stay healthy the saints have their left tackle slot filled dirt cheap on a rookie 2nd round pick cap hit no less...

Flukers a road grader who may be kicked inside down the road where his feet wont be as much of an issue in pass pro...

Kyle long sure looked better on tape than he grades out there...

There is always risk concerning draft. And it should be an o line pick. It wouldn't bother me as much if the guy was bad his first year as he was needed badly. And to say there is less of a risk at lb is silly! Just look at our pick from last year many think he is more suited at linebacker. Personally i think he would have struggled as a linebacker too. But thats for another argument.
Im fine with more than one o lineman being a rookie. Its been done before and worked!

Yes there is risk. Thank Ireland for it. We have to deal the hand we were dealt by that Bozo...

Just as much of a risk to pick up one of those old vets free agents...

We'll be fine if we go OL in the 1st and another before the 4th.

I agree but, this was from last year's cream of the crop, which we are very unlikely to get, and I am just looking at this year.

Might have TWO rookies on the line by Week One.

Worked for the bears last year. I'm more worried about RT then guard. Guard will have pounceys help a majority of the time meanwhile a rookie tackle is left on an island one on one with the pass rusher

This year's draft has about a dozen players who are all better than last year's draft. At OT, we are going to miss out on a guy like Taylor Lewan, who is one of those dozen. He could start day 1 at RT and excel, with the ability to take over at LT down the road when Albert can't go or moves on. If we do draft Zach Martin, he is more ready to go than Justin Pugh was last year. ZM could play LG easily and do it well. If we play him at RT, he may struggle a bit with power, at least initially.

Sometimes he will but the other times you can help the tackle out by either lining a TE on his outside and/or having the running back chip the pass rusher before going out into his pass pattern. These are some of the things other teams do to Cameron Wake and there is no reason we could not help the rookie out the same way if he needs it.

How did it work out for Da Bears? Long had 5 god games and 7 bad ones, with negative grades on run and pass. Mills was a disaster with -32.5 grade in pass, and -5.5 on the run. He gave up 78 pressures, which I think is worse than Columbo. They won 8 games in spite of them, not because of them.
