Phins That Trancend Eras

hell any of dans recievers would prob excel today, you had to learn how to make sure they didnt get a hold of you, this patty cake stuff db's play now a days the marks brothers would prob laugh at.. i just dont know how generationally speaking OL would transfer over.. sure they could put on weight maybe but langer...250, little 265, stephensen 255. i know Denver used smaller more atheltic type lineman for awhile, but i believe those OL would be a little over matched now a days....POSSIBLY

It’s all relative... if those same players were of this era they would focus more on packing on muscle weight and training more.... most of the players from 70’s had to work other jobs off-season to survive.

Jim Crash Jenson - Mr. Versatile
Tim Bowens - The guy would DOMINATE any era
Garo Yepremian - Always had good distance & accurate
Reggie Roby - IMO GOAT Punter (might be a little rose colored glasses versus Ray Guy)
Paul Warfield - Smooooooth Operator
Orande Gadson - He'd be slow with GREAT HANDS in any era
John Denney - Has & will continue to DOMINATE all era's

Without protection, I don't think so.

we had HOF lineman in the 70's i think he would've gotten ample protection even with as tough as the D's were. granted least sacked and fastest realize, he still recieved his fair share of cheap shots after he threw the ball in the 80's and 90's and would get up and get in the D's face

Bowens, for sure. It's a shame he was plagued by the nad back issues.

Warfield would be nearly impossible to stop with the PI rules of modern day. He was the faster version of Lance Alworth.

Ricky?

When he was focused, he was a force.

You make a best ever team, from every NFL team, and for the Dolphins, you have a backfield of Ricky, Zonk, and Mercury Morris...Just with those three there, Miami has to be rated pretty high on offense.

This is a fact.
Absolutely right @DKphin , which is why the QB stats and WR stats of today are laughable compared to those stats during the era when DB's could mug WR's … and QB's weren't protected. The QB's of yesteryear would feel like they were playing a video game in slow motion with how easy it is for a guy to get open these days … and the comfort and security afforded them in the pocket today … and the sure-handedness of WR's who know they're not getting their bell rung by safeties like they used to because of the instant-penalty of a helmet-to-helmet contact. QB's and WR's today are riding bicycles with training wheels compared to those old days.

Frankly, put Paul Warfield in the NFL today and he's absolutely dominant. Dan Marino would once again shatter every passing record and be the league MVP every other year. Oh, I'm pretty sure Larry Csonka would still be an effective runner as well.

The rules have changed … we're moving away from a physical game and more towards what is essentially flag football, with less contact, less power, and less practice time. More and more we're solely focusing on speed and quickness. It's not bad … but it is unquestionably different. Soon we'll eliminate kicking and punting from "football" and move away from its orientation as a collision sport … but we're not there yet. When it happens, none of the records of today will hold up … none. None of the athletes will be competitive, because they carry too much muscle, and this debate will rage once again. The difference is that the people defending the current players like JJ Watt, Cam Newton and Megatron will be derided by the younger fans as not being competitive with the future players because they were all too fat and slow. Just the way the game is headed. No concussion-pun intended.

I've got a better one. If you know this guy, don't say his name. Just give it a like. Lol!

The football played in the 80’s was not that far removed from the 70’s...especially when you look at the pass happy rules and softness of today’s game.

There are many players today that would lack the toughness and mentality to play back then.

It’s just silly to compare stats because changing the rules changes the game. They used to maul receivers and beat up the QB’s.
Yep. Watch the fins / miners SB - Dan gets knocked on his ass on every throw after the 1st quarter. Most of those hits are RTP today. He could have played in any era no question. Even JJ called him the toughest SOB or something like that. Remember him grabbing the Steeler LBs collar after he got hit by him. Dan was NOT intimidated by anyone. He didn’t care about you. He didn’t feel footsteps. He couldn’t care less. He intimidated YOU. Anyone see that interview where Broncos LB Tom Jackson talks about how in ‘85 they were watching him warm up and it was the only time in his career he and his defense ever felt intimidated by a QB.

Any era guys:

1. Marino
2. Griese - he’d win SBs today too. One of the smartest QBs ever.
3. Csonka
4. M Morris
5. Warfield
6. Langer, Little, Keuchenberg, Ed Newman
7. Wake
8. Taylor
9. Thomas
10. Madison, Surtain
11. Ricky Williams easily
12. Jim Jenson
13. Reggie Roby
14. Mark Clayton
15. Irving Fryar
16. Keith Jackson
17. Bryan Cox
18. Bill Stanfill
19. Vern Den Herder
20. Doug Betters
21. Larry Gordon
22. Brock Marion
23. Louis Oliver
24. Reshad Jones
25. Pete Stoyanovich
