Just a fun idea I had since all we really have is looking forward to the coaching search, so let's do a little game called pick 3. Everybody gets to name their top 3 candidates for the Head Coaching vacancy... but there's a catch. Each name has to fit a guideline. You may pick 1 current offensive coordinator, 1 current defensive coordinator, and name 1 wild card (Current coach, former coach, college coach, whatever). You also must explain why each candidate would be a good choiceShall we begin?

1.Adam Gase OC, Chicago Bears Gase became a hot candidate after replacing Mike McCoy in Denver, but the question became how much of his success was because of Peyton Manning and Denver's loaded offense and how much of it was his playcalling. Well, Gase is showing himself to be a very good coach in Chicago. Gase went to Denver with Josh McDaniels back in 2009 and was with them until John Fox was fired this past year. Gase does show a lot of tendencies that McDaniels uses in his playcalling including spreading out the field, and also relying on bunch packages to create mismatches and rub routes. Gase also uses the RBs in the passing game. While a risk I think Gase would be a good fit to help get something out of Ryan Tannehill. Based on the routes he likes, I think Juice, and Parker would thrive and I think you'd see the tight ends more involved in the passing game as well.

Teryl Austin DC, Detroit Lions While this season has been a disaster for the Lions, Austin has gotten the defense performing at a fairly high level again... and this is with the loss of DeAndre Levy to injury. Now there are a few reasons I like Austin as a candidate. THe biggest one being his familiarity with Suh as a player, and Suh arguably had his best season as a pro in Austin's defense. The other is Austin has been a part of several great organizations having been apart of 3 Super Bowl staffs (Seattle, Arizona, and Baltimore). His defenses in Detroit also tend to get to the QB a lot. Plus something to keep in mind is that he does have ties to the University of Michigan which would be something Mr. Ross may take into consideration

John Harbaugh Head Coach Baltimore Ravens I'll go with a big wildcard here. John Harbaugh and the Ravens front office have been at odds for a few years and winning the Super Bowl bought him a few years, but Steve Bisciotti's loyalty is to Ozzie Newsome and not John Harbaugh, and rumblings are that the GM and head coach have been disagreeing more and more recently. While it may be unlikely, the idea that Jim's brother could be available is not that farfetched especially with him wanting a pay raise and more say on roster moves. This is going to be only the second season JOhn will have missed the playoffs and only his 2nd ever losing season as a coach (though in theory they could still finish above or at .500). If he were to become available (and again with his connections to Michigan and Ross's love of headlines) I think John would be a no brainer.

So have at thee, excited to see what everybody comes up with.

Dennis Erickson, Dick Vermeil and Norv Turner are the ones I would give strong consideration. All have head coaching experience and they would all be excellent fits specifically as Dolphins head coaches.

I will play:

OC: Todd Haley
DC: Teryl Austin
WC: Gus Malzahn

I do like your 3 names. Adam Gase needs a head coaching job in the NFL.

Is it just me or does Gase look a little bit like Pennington?

reasoning buddy? Just curious as to what you like about those guys (mostly Haley, not a Malzahn guy either)

Haley: I think he would take the job, first of all. It is VITAL that whomever Miami offers the job to, takes it on the first try. From there, I like that he was a HC before. He had some success before it fell apart. The work he has done with Big Ben is awesome. Roethlisberger has had his best years under Haley. Look at the work he has done with all the injuries. I love the fact he has coached players up on his end of the ball. Finally, his offense is attacking and creative.

Malzahn: Creative. Has won wherever he has been. Runs the ball in so many ways. He is joy for me as a fan to watch coach. Love the guy, but he is not leaving the SEC.

1 . Payton
2. Hardbaugh

3 . All meh

Yes I know Hardbaugh is likely to stay with Baltimore .

If by some miracle he were to leave ..... Ross better give up EVERYTHING he has to to get that guy .

OC Hue Jackson: Jackson is my top choice to fill Miami's head coach vacancy. I love what he's doing in Cincy with his innovative play calling. In particular I love what he's doing with the two back sets over there. In my opinion Ajayi and Miller are every bit as talented as Hill and Bernard. Our offense should aspire to look like Cincy's and with the exception of the line and Hue Jackson's scheme we aren't that far off IMO. Having Hue Jackson would do wonders for Tannehill also. He's just a guy who gets his players strengths and weaknesses. He took that dumpster fire of a team in Oakland to a respectable 8-8 and in the hunt for the playoffs a few years back. I think he'll do a better job this time around, we have more talent than that Raiders team did. He's hungry and well respected by his players. I think getting Hue to coach this team would be a home run, I really hope we can land him!

DC Sean McDermott: He's doing a great job with Carolina's defense and aside from one year he has those guys amongst the top defenses year in and year out. That sounds like something that these Dolphins would sign up for in a heart beat. I think that McDermott would get the most out of Ndamukong Suh. Some people are better coorsinators than Head Coaches, hopefully if we land McDermott that's not the case.

Wildcard: Sean Payton. Consistently great offenses (albeit with a hall of fame QB) I think Payton would also bring out the best in Ryan Tannehill but his inability to field a good defense is concerning to me, as well as his off the field issues. I don't want to trade draft picks for Payton, we need to be acquiring more picis not giving them away. But I have to say In intrigued by Payto, especially to see what he could turn Tannehill into...

Honorable Mentions:
OC Adam Case
DC Teryl Austin
Wildcard Urban Meyer

That includes Tannenbaum. He would want total control to pick his own GM
Tannerbaum will crap all over that idea

Hue Jackson is my first choice right now. He has head coaching experience in Oakland & was 8-8 with a bad team & has really gotten better at Cincy. I think he works his offense around his players & does not make his offense work with the players he has.

Im not interested in a dc head coach...where this team goes the qb will set the ceiling anyways...and give me professional experience and success not college to the nfl complete unknown...sean payton i see as the qb guru which is what i think tanny needs most...

After that i consider it a considerable more risky proposition but hue jackson and kyle shanahan would probably be my other 2

I just wonder in kyle shanahans case if there would be some discipline and accountability issues with the players...how much respect would he have

John harbaughs not leaving baltimore and neither is jim leaving michigan so those pipe dreams can be put to rest...and in johns case ozzie newsome set him up with a seriously talented roster prior to this year and he may have just been riding those coat tails
