That it is a GOOD thing to draft a QB in the 1st round. I know, I know...what about all the busts? Yeah, but the bust possiblity is there for ALL positions!

The fact remains that the Steelers began the climb to the "elite" status when they drafted Rothlesbergr in the 1st round...at about the 15th-16th pick I believe. Cutler is looking better and better! In fact if I'm not mistaken, Cutler is rated better than Rothlesbergr now than big Ben was at this point during his draft. A good QB IS essential to get to the Super Bowl with only FEW exceptions. Draft Cutler! is the bottom line!:yell:

Yeah, good point there. I think we should really go for Cutler. We are one step away from playoffs right now and Cutler could get us there.

Just because a team is winning with a first round pick at QB is no reason to take a QB that early. The Bills have a first round QB and look where they are.

Yeah, but Cutler's probably not going to drop down to our spot and Saban won't trade up unless someone puts a gun to his head and maybe not even then. Busts happen to teams with no direction. This isn't one of them.

And Ben was actually rated towards the top of the draft with Eli Manning being number the top QB. Many experts however had Ben ranked ahead of Eli, and it was somewhat of a surpirse when Ben fell to the Steelers at I belive number 12. I don't see any body rating Cutler above Leinart and Young.

True but the lower you pick, the less at a chance for greatness. Losman was not rated as high as Cutler and the Bills reached on the pick. Only Cutler, Leinart, or Young is worthy of that #1 selection. My point was that the last 4-5 years the Steelers were a good team. Now they may be on the verge of greatness...why? ROTHLESBERGR! thats why. If we have even the slightest chance...we grab him.

No, Pittsburgh's proving it's a good thing to draft BEN ROETHLISBERGER in the first round.

They aren't making a statement about first round QBs anymore than the Patriots have proven that it's a good thing to draft a QB in the SIXTH round.

I will say this again, though.

I would probably choose Big Ben as a quarterback for Miami over anyone in the league. Certainly top two.

There has been numerous post on why we should NOT draft a QB in the 1st round. Pittsburgh is showing the world why we should.

Ah, I see your point.

But if someone is saying we shouldn't draft QBs in the first, that makes no more sense than saying we should. It's not about the round at all... it's about the person you're drafting, period, in my mind.

Baloney. Tom Brady was drafted in the 6th round.

Let's take a look at some of today's leading passers who were not first round picks:

Trent Green--8th Round
Brett Favre--2nd round
Jake Delhomme--Not drafted
Matt Hasslebeck--6th round
Marc Bulger--6th round
Mark Brunell--5th Round
Aaron Brooks--4th Round
Tom Brady--6th Round
Drew Brees--2nd Round
Jake Plummer--2nd Round
Brad Johnson--9th Round

Yes, I realize the crem de la crem were often first rounders, but these players are no slouch.

Pittsburgh proved that if a QB that should have gone much higher is there you draft him, not that draft a QB for the sake of drafting a QB.

Actually no, they're proving why it's good to keep a corp, and not drastically change it. The only key guy they lost from last year's team was Plax, and they only signed two FAs this year, Morgan and Wilson.

Roethlisberger was rated considerably higher than cutler is because the only real knock on him was he played at a mid major, he had ideal size and measurables a good arm and mechanics and had he played at a big time school would have been the unquestioned top pick. Cutler on the other hand has several question marks by comparison, worst of all is this "gunslinger attitude" why some people view this absurd characteristic as a positive i will never know, Jake Plumber has just shown us why you do not want a "gunslinger" at qb because at any time a reckless play can and will cost you games!

Cutler is far more careful with the ball than Plummer is and he's a damn good prospect. He's capable of being drafted legitimately at the 10-15 range. He's got it all simply said. You don't draft a non-gunslinger in the 1st round. If the Steelers needed Big Ben more he'd show his gunslinging ability.

Sorry but I disagree. We did pretty well with our last "Gunslinger"...Dan Marino!
