Trial by fire here folks.

Our OL is going to get blitzed like never before. I hope Hudson can quickly get these guys to play like they did last year. If we can't protect Daunte, its not gonna look good.

The Steelers had the #3 ranked run defense in the NFL last year so Ronnie is going to have his work cut out for him.

We may win this one on Mare's leg!

it's not like our 3-4 defense blitzes a lot in practice.....oh wait...they do.

We have to find ways to beat them at their own game when they choose to blitz us hard. Culpepper will need a quick outlet, and McMike should have a big night if the Steelers choose to blitz too often. Brown will also need to get open in the flats, and keep the Steelers LB's on their heels when he swings outdside....

I'm worried about the Phinz OL, but if we can find a successful way of countering the Steelers blitz, we should be able to frustrate them into changing their initial gameplan....

Defensive game without question. It will be a close one from start to finish....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

We'll need 3 step drops and Ronnie and the receivers are going to have to read the blitz's and look for quick passes. We have a veteran QB whose probably faced the blitz more than anyone. It's going to come down to everyone beating down the man in front of them. I hope it doesn't come down to the ref's deciding it.

This right here will be the biggest key in this game . . . Our OLine against the many different defensive packages Pittsburgh will be doing up front. One thing I love about Ronnie Brown is his ability to pickup the blitz . . . he may not have a stellar game on the ground, but IMO its more important for him to protect against the blitzing LB or safety and give CPep some time . . this is the most critical factor in tommorow nights game. We have some veterans on that line, lets see if they can work as a unit and atleast be even with that DLine for the night . . . we can't lose that battle tho.

I think we should spread them out and make them some of those backers off the field or make them have to cover!!

My biggest worry is the OL, but the one thing they did well in preseason was pass blocking. They also faced three defenses that are BETTER than the Steelers D in JAX, CAR & Bucs, in preseason. Problem is while they protected the QB fairly well, they couldn't run block for squat. Should be a battle up front, hope we win, its the key to this game IMHO.

Agree. The run blocking concerns me far more then pass blocking and picking up the myriad of blitzes we will see. We want to be a physical team, but it has shown in preseason that we still have a ways to go. Jax, TB, and Car. d-lines were much more physical than our o-line, and Pitt's front seven is on the same level as these teams.

BOTTOMLINE: The Fins have to open up the running game with the pass. I expect Daunte to throw 30-34 times this game. This won't be the case every week, but this is the best way to give our offense some success this week. If the running game opens up and we don't have to throw that much, the Steelers are in for a very, very long day.

pittsburg blitzes vs. our offensive line = disaster...

After watching our preseason games, it is evident that culpepper will get hit alot on thursday. What he has to do is make quick reads and maybe utilize draw plays(using ronnie of course, not qb draws). I still think we win this one, but by no more than 7 points.

Yeah and water is wet. Thanks for your valuable insight.
:rolleyes2

I say we start the game just like Peyton started the game in Week 12:

A single back formation, playaction, and a deep pass for a Chambers touchdown!

Aren't RB's and TE's more important in picking up blitz packages than the oline? i mean I know sometimes an olineman will try to pick off a blitzer, but it seems to me they will already have their hands full with the steelers front-line...

They are important, however the Steelers do not have 5 front linmen.
