We should have hired Tom Coughlin. He is 5-1 against Belichick to include both SB wins. Why would we not at least interview someone who has owned our nemesis? Just don't understand the logic behind the ownership and front office.

We could have also hired either Mike Smith or Lovie SMith as the DC.:crazy:

Also Shanahan would have been a good hire for the same reason. In early 1996, Mike Shanahan was asked who he thought was among the best coaches in the NFL. He said to Belichick. Right after he was fired by the Browns. The gathered reporters laughed at him. Who is laughing now? We all know who is being laughed at.

Great analysis there. Let's hire Lovie Smith as our DC *looks up record of Tampa Bay Bucs defense the last two years*

Don't mind me, I'm just here for the comments. :snack:

Time will tell...
I understand where your coming from....but you nor I know how it will work out.

I was a Coughlin guy too....but I like the idea of Adam Gase...hopefully it works.

Lovie Smith is so bad, this should be his last shot as a HC. A defensive HC who has an awful D is not a good sign

Their reasoning was that the long term future of a 70 year old coach is, shall we say, in doubt.

That being said Tom Coughlin was my first choice as well. The fact that we hired someone doesn't change that for me. I relish the idea of being sad a coach is leaving rather than wanting him lit on fire as he scurries out the door.

I wanted Tom also but he is too old.
I wish Adam all the best and I support him.
Maybe this time we found our new HC for the next decade,we can only hope.

Look up anything you like. He was NOT the DC! He was the HC. He is a proven DC in the NFL. Better than HOPING for results from an unproven position coach.

I understand the concern over his age. But I have more"HOPE" with a proven winner than to say this guy MIGHT be something. You guys do realize that under Gase, Cutler had worse stats than did Tannehill this past season.

Regarding Lovie,
Just like the run-n-shoot, the Tampa 2 has been figured and easily dismantled.

The read option shall join the list fairly soon I think.

Coughlin being too old is no worse than Gase being too unproven.

hardly. if Coughlin could turn it around (lets not forget he went 7-9, 6-10, 6-10 in recent years so it is very much an if) he will need to retire by the time the team is ready to compete again. Full reset time again

Also keep in mind his staff are all under contract in New York which was a big reason why he didnt take the Eagles job

That's not true. The Tampa 2 still thrives with quite a few teams (Panthers, Cowboys, Bucs, Seahawks, etc). Although, bc of rule changes and player safety, some of it's principles have changed such as the jamming and re-routes downfield by defenders and spot dropping. It's become more of a situational scheme than the standard base but it's still very much in use.

And the read option isnt going anywhere; it's already lent it's hand in the development package plays.
