Word out of PFW is that Saban was doing most of the playcalling...Mularky has done more of it the past two games...discuss...

"With either Harrington or Culpepper, the Dolphins are not scoring enough points to win. 21 points is usually what you need to win games.

Against Green Bay and Chicago, Defensive scores led to passing this magic number. To date, this offense has been pitiful all season long, with Either Dante or Joey. It scores 13-17 points per game, on average. This is not enough.

I blame the play-calling of Mike Mularkey more than either QB. The o-line was a big problem for a while, but it has been fixed... and yet our scoring still hasn't improved.

**********
Points Scored
1. Pittsburgh 17
2. BUFFALO 6
3. TENNESSEE 13
4. Houston 15
5. New England 10
6. New York Jets 17
7. GREEN BAY 24
8. Chicago 31
9. KANSAS CITY 13"

The first 5 games were marred by poor personnel decisions (LJ Shelton at Left Tackle), and too much complexity in the play-calling.

The o-line had lots of strange-looking double teams and stunts, which were not working for unathletic linemen.

I'm sure at some point Nick Saban decided to step-in, and help, and reduce the complexity. Early in the year, we saw Dante rollout right to avoid being sacked by Shelton's guy. Also, there was talk of going no-huddle to help the o-line. I'm sure these were Saban's ideas. I don't think that he's actually calling plays though. Maybe saying "No" to some plays... but probably not actucally calling them.
********
Against the Chiefs, this offensive game-plan looked a lot like earlier in the year. It looked complex again. With 9 weeks under their belt, and better personnel on the o-line (MacIntosh), it looked like we were able to execute these same complex running plays that we could not run earlier in the year.

The commitment to the run, and the lack of turnovers and penalties were good to see in the Chiefs game.

13 points is still not going to get Mike Mularkey an award for good play-calling, though. I would never bet money on a team that can't score 17-21 offensive points consistently.

if saben was calling the plays.it must have been just -run or pass.becouse he doesnt carry a play calling sheet down on the field.unless he has a photo graphic memory.

That reverse late in the game when Miami needed to protect the lead was horrible in my opinion. I am a firm believer in remaining aggressive in order to keep a firm hold on a late game lead. However, there is a huge difference between aggressive and reckless.

Good point... That reverse and turnover could have been disaterous if the Dolphins would have lost because of that...

Saban said he wants our team to be aggressive, and that includes the play calling. I wasn't crazy about that call, but we have seen Dolphin teams in the past run the ball into the line, then punt away only to let up the wining score anyway. I think he's trying to tell his guys that we will go down swinging in the hope that a more aggressive attitude will turn this team around. Let's face it, the conservative play calling of the past has driven us all nuts at some point.....GO FINS!!!!!

i think you make a great point, were establishing our system and identity to other teams, were making mistakes in doing that but at the same time creating an awareness by the other teams that play us in the future that they must defend the whole field

Saban's a defensive coach who shouldn't really be calling offensive plays. Mularkey can design plays (especially trick ones) but he can't call them.
