The ability to run a good up tempo offense is key to us blossoming into a good team imo. We've heard it before and will have to see it to believe it but this is encouraging.

“It’s reminiscent of Chip Kelly’s offense in Philadelphia, with the tempo and style,” said one Dolphins player who asked not to be named.
Kelly uses a spread offense, and the player said the spread is an important part of this Dolphins attack, but there is more to this offense than that.
“There are some West Coast offense concepts,” the player said. “Some shotgun, some under center. They’ve discussed having both no huddle and huddle. It’s fast tempo.”
There’s no natural fullback, though there is a role for an H-back and multiple tight end sets, the player said.
Other Dolphins players have mentioned similarities between their offense and the Eagles’, though –-- as Joe Philbin has noted --– “we’re going to have a variety of formations.”

We've seen a lot of different systems come and go over the last 10-15 years but it always seems we have the wrong people in place for the system we are implementing. I'm withholding judgement until we actually see it in action. A lot depends on whether the line can keep RT clean or not.

up tempo offense...if so my prayers since the bye week of last season that fell on deaf ears have been answered...and this team will score more points in 2014...BOOK IT

tempo will help the running game and the pass protection...the qbs been ready

Please have lots of variety and some play calling creativity! Even if we didn't win, but I noticed a better effort and some more guts in that department I could still be a little happy. We are long over due for a good offense.

I don't think the QB was the reason we weren't running it more last year, I think it had more to do with all the other new pieces on offense and the revolving door of o-linemen. These new big boys on the line better start getting some laps in cause I expect both teams to try to tire the others defense out come week one.

i think that's an excuse frankly...only way they could have kept that qb more clean was to hit people with tempo and try and wear out pinned ears pass rushers cause no one respected our ability to run the ball...

once indy went fast tempo the offense exploded...why??? cause the qb was ready for it...our qb was ready too...sherman just crapped the bed...whenever this team went fast be it 2 minute drill or end of halfs where it required it the offense went right down the damn field if the protection didn't implode...

i doubt it's gonna be eagles level tempo though cause these 2 tackles aren't made for that i can tell ya that much...not that level athletes like the eagles have at tackle...these guys will be sucking wind like crazy we go that fast

This could be good news to guys like Egnew, Hoskins, Sims, and Lynch. With the H-Backs Hoskins really has a good shot to make the roster and Egnew could have an opportunity to get in the offence regularly by giving guys a rest in the up-tempo offense. Clay will get a big payday next offseason if he keeps playing well in this new offense, He will be explosive this year.

Here's my question though: if the offensive coordinator has total control of the offense, and the defensive coach has total control of the defense, what is the role of the head coach in this organization?

What is Philbin expected to do on a daily basis?

Serious question.

So it looks likt they are going to give Tannehill a fighting chance to display his real abilities.

Hopefully the rest of the offense is able to keep up....I don't worry about Clay, HArtline, Gibson or even Landry, but there are a few fellas that might not have the smarts for it...

I hope like hell they are stressing conditioning for the big boys up front

Sherman really was just an old fart who's brand of offense was outdated. He did not change with the times, so it's nice to get a fresh makeover for the offense. My only worry is about Tanny, who will not be playing a Sherman offense for the first time since high school. The question will be, did Sherman actually get the most out of him, or did he get him to a certain point but then kept him from progressing past that point? I lean toward the latter (due to his success with the up-tempo in the few opportunities he had), but only time will tell.

not really sure why this would benefit egnew...gonna be hard for a 4th tight end to make this roster if they keep 5 or more wrs this year...and 5 seems pretty likely barring injury...lynch and sims and clay would be the odds on favorites to make it...lynch and sims for more traditional 2 tight end sets which lazor used heavily at uva...lynch will blow a blocking assignment but what you will get is max effort for what his level athlete etc allows...even if it doesn't project all that high end...still he's more polished than egnew already and they will bet on his developing as a in line blocker

hoskins gonna be tough on that kid too cause i cant see them carrying more than one clay like player...you can't afford 2 of clay and 2 in line tight ends when you are keeping 5 or more wrs and at least 3 rbs...

just don't see it...one of clay sims or lynch get hurt than i can see it going different...but seems like the obvious inside slots to make the 53 are those 3...tempo or no tempo...

unless we gonna run a wild offense...which i'm not buying into either

The key to Kelly's offense isn't any fancy formation or play, nor even super uptempo. The key to his offense is using pre-snap motion to set up mismatches and find openings to exploit. Mismatches that are exacerbated by the uptempo game and inability for the D to sub efficiently. If you eliminate the motion and speed Kelly's offense is very similar to a whole lot of others. There's no special routes, no special blocking, just creating and abusing mismatches.

I don't blame Sherman the way a lot people seem to want to. Every time an older coach has a bad offense or defense they want to say he's outdated and put the blame on him.

Besides the fact our oline was ranked among the worst in pass block and run block, no one on offense was really that good last year. Wallace couldn't catch, miller couldn't break tackles, hartline can't make a play for his life, Gibson got injured at a time when he was on fire...

Really, the players just weren't good.

I remember when everyone blames Henning for his offense. The same Henning that went into the playoffs with Chad Pennington, davone bess, Camarillo, and ginn as his offensive core. Henning never sucked, if anyone sucked it was Henne.

you're kidding yourself if you don't think that tempo leads to a lot of positive things for that eagles offense...i get the presnap late motion etc but that tempo is a big damn deal
