Stock Way Up
Sean Smith- Had a great overall game, to the point that Jax was avoiding him. awesome Pick in the end zone!
Chris Williams- At first he had us shaking our heads but once he got rid of the jitters this rookie from New Mexico state was awesome returning kicks. He can really get down the field. Its too bad the WR battle does not have too much room for another.

Stock UP
Cam Wake-cam got some good pressure soon after being put in the game. nearly had a few sacks. give him a full game and he's gunna get the QB.
Pat White- His stats do not do justice to his pretty impressive showing. had at least 3 passes dropped and the one nice pass tipped for a pick. His playing time came during some nasty rain and mud. He ran the ball well and was able to avoid taking a huge hit. He also did not make any bone headed plays and threw the ball away instead of throwing into double coverage. may have a bit too much zip on the ball(especially in rainy conditions)
Lex Hilliard- Runs with power and finds a way to push the pile up the middle.
Patrick Turner- he looks really good. And really big!
Ted Ginn Jr- showed nice hands and played with confidence (just like we have been hearing from Training camp reports) got a few nice yards after the catch.
Jason Allen- had a pretty good game but mostly his stock is up because eric greens is down. Id rather keep JA then green.
JD fulsom- had a nice pick
Wilford- Caught a TD pass which equated to all of what he was able to do last season. can he make it as a TE?
Kendall Langford,McDaniel and Donald Thomas All had very strong games, As per Greyboy.thks (had a hard time seeing)
Defense Specifically the rushing defense, held Jax to 66 yards rushing. First team defense looked good against the pass.

Stock Holding
Vontae Davis- sure he made some mistakes and bone headed plays but he was not outright getting burned over and over again like green. needs to learn from his mistakes and have a short memory.
Brian Hartline- Had 1 really nice grab.
Chad Henne- Looked great at times and made bad decisions at others.
Chad Pennington- nothing spectacular but also nothing spectacularly bad.
Dan Carpenter- made a long kick which almost sailed on him and missed an extra point in the mud
Starting Offensive Line Pass Protection was pretty good, Run blocking was not so good. Borderline stock down but it is still early enough to get these guys gelling together.

Stock Down
Anthony Armstrong- simply because he was basically a no show

Sell Now
Eric Green- burned all night. they picked on him too and he never responded. Had a chance to get a pick on a tipped ball but did not have his head up.

Not sure about your Holding category. Hartline, Henne, Pennington were all steady. I wouldn't say Vontae was and comparing him to Green isn't saying much. Also if you miss an extra point in a preseason game when you're in the middle of a battle for your roster spot... that's not good.

To carpenters credit that ball was mired in the infield mud. granted kickers should pretty much never miss extra points but that had to be a factor. the hold category was pretty much for people who did what was expected which is how Pennington and Henne did in my opinion. I think Vontae did as we expected from all the reports from training camp. He is still learning for sure but basically by not putting him in the "sell" category Im saying that I think its too early to pass a quick judgment on him. I did like how he was playing physical out there but he just needs to work on when to be physical.

Truth. Kicking off the infield dirt is hard enough when it hasn't just been turned to mud. Just doubt Carpenter has room for those excuses when he's been practicing so badly.

Thanks for clearing up your method. Heh, yeah I wouldn't call Vontae a "sell" either.

How can you not have a single lineman listed ?

Anyway Kendall Langford, McDaniel and Donald Thomas had very strong games.

Greyboy- I was just trying to shed some light on what I was able to see.
added all three thks

I watched streaming it on a pretty small screen so I was not able to see everything that clearly.. unlike some of you guys its really hard to see the games live in new mexico. partly I had to go off what the commentators were saying and the commentators sucked

Redroth
added ernest wilford

You did a good job..some people just have to be negative

IMO
Stock up Sean Smith- Really impressed with him. He looked good against Holt and the starting WR's of the Jags and than came in later in the game and made an impressive play on the ball in the endzone. Definately looks like a playmaker. I'd say he put himself in position where it's his job to lose.

Chris Williams- Looked TERRIBLE his first couple of punt returns, but really turned it around. He looked like a Devin Hester type on some of those kick returns. He still needs to show he can play WR because it's going to be hard to give him an ACTIVE roster spot just to return kicks. Hopefully the next three games he gets more opportunitys in the passing game.

Lex Hilliard- Ran hard and made some nice moves. Is caught in a numbers game but definately made an impression. I think if he keeps this up the rest of the preseason he might earn a spot on someone else's roster. If not he put himself well ahead of Kimble for a PS spot for us.

Ted Ginn and Devone Bess- Bess ran nice crisp routes and looks like he might catch 80 balls this year. Ginn also ran some nice routes and created some seperation early which is nice. I also believe he made a nice catch in traffic. Either way I think they both put a small amount of distance over Camarillo.

Donald Thomas- I didn't rewind the game and go over all the plays so I didn't get a GREAT look at the O-Lineman but Thomas stood out to me. He mauled a few D-Lineman on a few plays and he came in during the 2nd series and has great pass protection. I'd say he passed Murphy for the starting job so far.

1st string Front Seven- Again I didn't rewind every play and watch every player but I was really impressed with our run defense in the 1st quarter. Crowder was everywhere, JT looked good in run defense. Our first string dline swallowed up the o-line. And they got good pressure. They looked good.

QBs- Pennington looked like his normal self. Henne came in and made some good plays. He still has things he needs to work on but I think it was a solid showing for him. DON'T look at Pat White's stats if you haven't watched the game. I know it looks like he was horrible, but he was a victim of a couple of drops including his interception. He needs to put a little more touch on those throws but I still expect those to be caught. All in all I thought he had a solid debut.

Nathan Jones- Had a nice sack against the first teamers and generally had good coverage.

Also nice little shout out to Kershaw and Folsom. Good game from those two. Nothing special but solid run support and Folsom had a nice pick.

Stock Down Eric Green- First of all it's only the first preseason game so lets not just cut him yet, Buuuuut man he looked awful. From TC reports he hasn't played good in practice either. I think he just went from competing for a starting job to competing FOR A JOB. I'd put Allen, Smith, Davis, and Nathan Jones all in front of him. And if it comes down to a battle to him and Jason Allen, I think Allen wins because of his special teams play. Really bad debut for Green.

Ronnie Brown, Justin Smiley, and Jake Grove- Once again I didn't go over every block by Smiley and Grove so a little disclaimer on this. But we could not run the ball up the middle against Jacksonville. They have a great run defense so I thought this would be a good test and we looked exactly the same as last year. Ronnie also showed the least amount of burst of any other Running back in the game and didn't bounce off tackles like Williams, Cobbs, and Hilliard did. Hopefully these three get it together because we need to be able to run the ball between the tackles.

Dan Carpenter- Made a nice 48 yard FG but than had an XP blocked. I don't buy people's excuses about the dirt and the rain. Is it not going to rain in a couple of our games??? He's got to be able to make that. He's opening the door for Barth.

Patrick Turner- Yes he had nice numbers but I saw 2 maybe 3 drops from him(although one would have been a nice catch). He created nice seperation and made some big plays. He's a lock for the team but if he wants to be on the ACTIVE roster during game days he needs to show a little more. He's not a special team ace like Hartline or London and Chris Williams also showed some value as a returner. I'd say it was a stock down because he might lose some playing time if he doesn't catch some of those passes.

Anthony Armstrong- Was invisible throughout the game except for one drop. Was behind London because London is a beast on Special Teams and now looks behind Williams because of his return ability.

Overall I thought we looked good, Our first team looked better than their first team and some of our younger players showed promise. But everyone has to remember its only the first preseason game and like Sparano preaches, we need consisitancy out of these players before we give them roster spots. Great way to start though!!!

Agreed with most of the review. Really liking this Chris Williams kid. Looks really explosive on returns, especially kick returns. I'm thinking he has a legit shot to make the roster as a 6th WR over London. Our 2 rookie WR's give us everything London gives us, Hartline with ST and Turner with size. Really hoping to see some of Chris Williams in the passing game next week.
