You aren't keeping Drake over Ballage?????

You can't 'dump' Reshad Jones unless you want to be >$6m worse off on the salary cap. Even post June 1st it'd be $15m dead cap.

You COULD find and employ a defensive coordinator that'd play him nearer the line of scrimmage and nearer the ball. That's what I'd do.

Keep:
1. X
2. Fitz
3. Baker
4. Tunsil
5. Wilson/Grant (love the speed)

Dump:
1. Parker (not for his price tag)
2. Tannehill
3. Osweiler
4. Stephone Anthony
5. Larsen

If I am GM, my philosophy is that big fat contracts don't win you super bowls, nor do elite players outside of QB and maybe LT, and that chemistry and team attitude is very important in winning (no me me me me me attitudes). Thus...

5 Players to cut or trade:
---Xavien Howard. Yup, wants to be highest paid CB because of one good season, and is hurt a lot. Me me me me me.
---Robert Quinn. Didn't play up to hype.
---Tannehill. He is a good guy, but will cost too much and isn't worth it. Osweiler is the same player, and way cheaper.
---Parker. Too much money for little production. Hurt all the time.
---Juwan James. It pains me to cut him because we don't need another hole on the line, but he wants top dollar and he isn't a top RT. If he brings his price down a bit, he is a keeper.

5 Players to Keep:
---Tunsil. A good LT will get you far, he is playing real well. Him I would pay top dollar to.
---Alonso. Yes I know many dislike his antics, but he is a good LB with lots of tackles. Unless we sign someone better, I keep him.
---Amendola. Lots want to get rid of him, but I don't. Notice how he got open a lot? He was a top target for us this year.
---Osweiler. Come on guys, he's a good and cheap backup. If our starter goes down, I'm okay with Osweiler starting.
---Travis Swanson. Looks like an upgrade over Kilgore, and is younger.

I didn't mention rookies because they're rookies, they aren't going anywhere.

I like your thinking....

You need to move McDonald for a draft pick and keep Jones. It made no sense to sign McDonald when he’s the same player as Jones.

Extend Osweiler 2 years and let him start. 2019 is going to be a season about rebuilding the roster with youth and not about wins. Need to be picking at the top of the 2020 draft to land that elusive franchise QB.

Not counting players like Minkah, Ballage or Baker because they're only just entering the 2nd year of their rookie contracts and will definitely be around for a few more years at least:

Keep
1. Tunsil
2. Howard
3. Drake
4. Stills
5. Wilson (if healthy)

Let go:
1. Quinn
2. Parker
3. Tannehill
4. Either TJ or Jones because I want Minkah at FS
5. Branch

Honorable mentions (dump): Sitton (injury history), Kilgore, Larsen, Hayes (injury history), Sam Young.

Harris, Tankersley get one year to prove themselves.
Wake and Gore get one more year due to sentimental reasons and to teach the youngsters how to be pros. Although I can see the logic in dumping Gore to give more playing time to Drake and Ballage.

It's a good post.

I look at this draft and think Miami can score on the defensive side of the ball. Lots of really talented defensive lineman, to the point i'd go that route back-to-back first and second round. That kind of changes how I view free agency a little bit. I think the team should keep Sitton and James and then there are two holes on the offensive line instead of three or four. Miami should be able to find a guard mid-round. Swanson could be a stopgap at center.

The one thing that could change this strategy, though, is the quarterback position. If Murray or Jones is there at #13, I think you have to pull the trigger.

Magic 8 ball are all Tankers Wankers ? Answer= It is decidedly so

I’m going full on Ross rebuild.

Dump:
1. Trade X. I love him but he’s going to be expensive and more and more corners are available in the draft.
2. Trade or cut Tannehill. Don’t even have to go into the reasons.
3. Cut Alonso. WAAAAY TOO EXPENSIVE! Just not good enough.
4. Cut Parker. No brainer.
5. Cut Quinn, Branch, Hayes, Spence, Hood, Williams and all the other JAGs on the DL. If the switch is to a 3-4, trade Wake to a contender of his choice not named the Patriots.

Keep:
1. Tunsil. LTs of his size and skill are too hard to find. Sign him to an early extension now.
2. Minkah. No brainer. He will very soon be our defensive leader.
3. Wilson. Dynamic player on a relatively cheap contract.
4. Ballage. I see a lot of potential on a cheap contract.
5. Baker. Keep him in the weight room, polish him up, and you have a really good linebacker that can help solve our problems covering TEs and RBs.

1. X
2. LT
3. MInkah
4. Baker
5. Vincent Taylor

If your telling me to take 5 from our current roster to plan for the future w/... it's these guys. Margins 4-10 are pretty small but I roll w/ these guys

X was incredible value in the second and he's proven that he belongs. Has won multiple games for us and led the league in interceptions while missing 1/4 the season. I lock him up long term and have a top 5 CB to build my defense around

LT has Given us the best outcome we could have prayed for after drafting him. Played well inside as a rookie, kicked outside to LT and played near an all-pro level this year. In a team full of drama this "nightmare" coming out of the draft has given us 0 problems. Homerun draft pick w/ homerun outcome. He's our LT of the next ten years and we need him if we draft a young QB

Whoever takes over this defense is gonna carve out a role for minkah and he'a gonna settle in and be what everyone expected him to be.
He displayed potential at every position this year. Has shown to be very good near the LOS too w/ multiple 3rd/4th down stops in isolation and perfectly jumped pick 6 to boot. Let him settle in, he'll show you why he should be a captain

Before the season I wrote I was more intrigued by Jerome baker than I was McMillan. This season showed why - baker truly is as fast as advertised. He got instinctually better as the season went on, and w/ that speed and his tackling ability I want him as a 3 down LB that at worst is a great nickel play. I love his trajectory and I believe he'll keep ascending

Vincent Taylor rated out as one of the best run stuffing DTs in the NFL this year. I'm comfortable retaining him no matter if we keep a 4-3 or a 3-4. I don't invest heavy into run stuffers and VT is about as cheap as they come w/ time still left on his contract. I want him as an anchor on this DL.

After Taylor I had drake, stills, ballage, Wilson, grant and McMillan all rather close to each other. I chose Taylor bc he's a good start to building the trenches

Personally I like Quinn. I kept him, jones, James, Kiko off the list bc I'd rather build w/ the other pieces

Keep:

Xavien Howard
Minkah Fitzpatrick
Laremy Tunsil
Godchaux and Taylor
Jerome Baker
Jason Sanders

Dump:

Ryan Tannehill
Kiko Alonso
Reshad Jones
Andre Branch
John Denney (this one makes me sad)
Ted Larsen
Daniel Kilgore
Robert Quinn
Devante Parker
Danny Amendola

Explore Options:

Bobby McCain
TJ McDonald
Ja'Wuan James
Raekwon McMillan
Kenny Stills
Mike Gesicki

Under explore options, keep in mind that that stuff really depends on which direction the team is going in 2019. If we switch to a 3-4 or move Raekwon to SAM, he might be a much better fit there than he is as a 4-3 MLB. I just don't think he is athletic enough to continue in the role he's playing now. Mike Gesicki, you either figure out how to make this kid look like an NFL player or you move him ASAP. What I saw from him this season was abominable.

Cam Wake, if he wants to be released or traded to a specific team, you release or trade him to that team. If he wants to stay in Miami, you let him stay. He's been a great player, professional, and human being during his time in Miami. One of the only bright spots in this crappy franchise over the last decade. You let him choose how he wants to go out and then he gets put on the Ring of Honor in a few years.
