We are currently considering doing a Playoff Voting System as a TRIAL RUN ONLY. We will still use our old voting formatt this year of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place votes, with each one being worth a given amount of points. I would like as many GMs to possibly vote on if they'd like to do a test run on the Playoff Voting System while we're doing the regular voting system. I will explain how the Playoff Voting System will work.

We will create a Playoff Voting thread where you will choose the division winners of each conference and two wildcards in each conference. So it'll look like this.

Part One:
Divison Winners:
1. Team A (2 pts)
2. Team B (2 pts)
3. Team C (2 pts)
4. Team D (2 pts)
Wildcard Teams
5. Team E (1 pt)
6. Team F (1 pt)

The teams with the top scores in each division will go onto playoffs where they will be given seeds according to the number of points they have. Two teams that did not win their divison will be chosen based on point totals of the remaining teams who did not win their division. This will set up the Playoffs. We hope for this to last 2-3 days.

Part Two:
We will close the previous thread and create a new thread labeled "First Round Voting"; GMs will be able to post who will win those games like in the following formatt...

Team C vs Team F
Winner: Team C

Team D vs Team E
Winner: Team E

We will give about 2-3 days for the voting proces.

Part Three:
We will then close that previous thread and again, create a new thread labeled "Divisional Round Voting", where the same formatt will occur. 2-3 days is expected for this as well.

Part Four:
The Conference Championships will arrive and we will soon be able to determine who will face off in the big one. 2-3 days will be given to determine the winners of each game. The same formatt as before will be used.

Part Five:
The final game, the Super Bowl. We will then give 2 days or so to vote for the Super Bowl. We may open this poll to the public if the two remaining GMs are interested. We will not open this poll to the public if one of the GMs are not interested. I'm thinking that if we do open this to the public, we will get a great response and garner great interest for next year. Publicity stunt? Yessir, but do you blame us?

During this time, due to popular demand... We're going to do best of categories as well. Here's the categories that I've come up with and if anyone has any other ideas, feel free to let us know...

Team "Built to Last"
Team on the Rise
Best in Trades
Best in Free Agency
Best in Draft
General Manager of the Year
Rookie General Manager of the Year (first year GMs only)
Free Agent Steal of the Year
Trade of the Year
Draft Steal of the Year

Now here comes the main deal, please vote on the poll, tell us if this would be a good idea or if this idea just plain out stinks. If the results turn out very well, this may just be the voting process to determine the entire winner. Responses are appreciated.

I voted yes, but I have a few questions about this process. How can we effectively use this process as a mere test, while simultaneously voting in the traditional way? Isn't one going to influence the other?
If we wind up with the same winner, why make a change? If we wind up with a different winner, what exactly is this test looking to discover?

I agree. Should be one or the other. Either we keep voting as we have, OR we do a playoff method.

I personally would suggest something along the lines of the "March Madness" format currently going on in the lounge. Poll's could be created, they could be either public or not, and winners could easily be determined that way.
I would also suggest to follow the AFC ~VS~ NFC playoff system to help set up the polls. Perhaps even start at division level....just a thought.

Voting for the playoff system would likely just say who has the best team, kind of unfair for the Raiders isn't it?

i voted yes, anything to get some more active people would be great.I was also thinking the same as His'nBeatYour'n.

We'll consider doing only one or the other, but would you think it'd be a good idea or a bad idea to involve the VIP members to vote again this year?

Yeah, that went over real well last year:shakeno:. I introduced it a handfull of times in the VIP, and I dont think we had more than 2 or 3 VIPers vote.

Not necessarily. One of the things I do like about the voting system, versus a madden style scoring system, is that everyone votes for different reasons. Some concentrate on the most improved teams which hurts a team like the Colts, others on the best overall teams, which could hurt a team like the Raiders. And many, like myself, vote for a mix of the two. I don't know that I would vote any differently in a playoff system than I would in the traditional one.

And just exactly what is that supposed to mean:ninja: . I'll put my new and improved roster up against anybody....:fire:

Now, now... No need to go all Jackie Chan (or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles style, your pick) on me  .. I'm just saying, let's be realistic, when most people think playoffs, they think, yeah the best teams pitting off against one another! I'm just saying you didn't have exactly the greatest team in the world to start with, so to expect you to compete with guys with teams that were in the playoffs is a bit irrational. None the less, if you guys want to do strictly just one, I will set up a poll in a little bit deciding which one... But out if curiosity, would you guys will like it to be a 32 team tournament kinda like the March Madness deal or would you rather it be, we decide the 6 teams that represent each conference and treat it by NFL standards? I really don't mind which one it would be, I'd just like to know because I'll be the one setting this stuff up... and az, don't expect no catchy graphics from me like in FH's March Madness, I may be an organization type guy, but I'm no artist. Oh and Mr. Raider Nation over there, you and me... :ninja: .. It's on!

I would rather do a playoff...Im not sure how all it would work but I think a team vs team would be more fun the doing everyone all together...

I think the only fair way you could do it is if you voted for a winner in every division. Then the two highest vote getters who don't win their division get wild card spots. Do bracketing based on votes. Then you do it just like the NFL playoffs. As I said in suggestions, I also think it'd be fun if we set up some categories to vote on, i.e. most improved, team on the rise etc.

Yea I would like to do it in Divisions also...And have most improved and best draft/best free agency/best trades
