... on the view new posts page. I don't know how many of naviagte this MBoard this way, but it's how I do it. I have http://www.finheaven.com/boardvb2/search.php?do=getnew bookmarked for reading messages here and it was also nice that when you were finished reading the new messages you could just hit the mark all messages as read button or link so that the next time you go back to the MBoard you don't have to worry about reading old THREADS.
If it's there already and I'm missing it, sorry in advance. And just so everyone knows, I hate the upgrade, some of it's really nice, but overall IMO it's not worth it.
