Long ago and far way there was an NFL team with a "Name Brand" Head Coach. He did OK for a while then he had some bad seasons. He was at odds with upper management and had problems with his DC. He had a QB whose performance had fallen off and was becoming a non performing load. This "Name Brand" Head Coach got fired, which surprised a lot of knowledgeable NFL operations people. During the teams search for a new Head Coach they found a "young first time candidate" they really liked and offered him the job of Head Coach, but he had to use their existing DC. This "young first time candidate" turned them down. They got an other HC but have been a bottom dweller since then.
Two years later, this "young first time candidate" was offered and accepted the position of head Coach with a troubled team with a questionable QB but apparently with a supporting upper management structure. After some initial success the team was mediocre. There were many problems, but a sore spot was the DC. The "young first time candidate", now the head coach could not get the DC he wanted initially and when another suitable DC was available he was not allowed by the upper management to get him. He was now at odds with upper management and while he got performance with the existing QB, there was too much time lost to injury and he had to play half of the time with backup QB's. This "young first time candidate" got fired, which surprised a lot of knowledgeable NFL operations people. The team is now searching for a new Head Coach and it seems there is a specific "Name Brand" coach that ownership has ties to and would like to get.
In case the general nature of my references escapes you here are some specific's:
San Francisco Forty Niner's = NFL team with a "Name Brand" Head Coach
SF QB = Kaepernick
Harbaugh = "Name Brand" Head Coach
Gase = "young first time candidate"
Miami Dolphins = Troubled Team
MD QB = Tannehill
How's that for irony and poetic justice!
