Bill Polian, the Hall of Fame NFL executive, said the Dolphins are “not far away” from being a playoff team.
And Polian, who has voiced support for quarterback Ryan Tannehill recently, also spoke highly of coach Joe Philbin.
“The arrow’s been (pointing) up for the last two or three years,” Polian said about the Dolphins on Friday at the NFL Scouting Combine.
“They’re not far away. So if you’re a Dolphins fan, things are looking up from my perspective.”
Polian, who serves as a NFL analyst for ESPN, said Tannehill’s improvement should make Dolphins fans feel good.
“The nice thing about the Miami Dolphins is that Ryan Tannheill is in place and he gets better every year,” Polian said. “That arrow has been up every year and I believe it’s going to continue to be up. So that’s Point 1. That’s the best news of all if you’re a Dolphins fan.
“And I’ve said this numerous times, I think Joe Philbin’s done a great coaching job, he and his staff.”
Polian said the Dolphins to plug some holes, such as finding a workhorse running back.
“Now they certainly could use a running back, there’s no question about that,” he said, “and that will help Ryan Tannehill.”
Polian didn’t seem concerned about wide receiver Mike Wallace, who was unhappy about how he was used for much of the second half of the season.
“The receiver position will get sorted out,” Polian said. “They’re on top of that.”
