I don't think there is a single player in the NFL that is worth $50,000,000 a year. Really let that number sink in. I don't care how much pressure it comes with, how much merch they sell, goodwill for the community, etc. etc. That means that for a half a year of work (and I'm counting travel, OTAs, camp, etc.) he will make what most of us will make in our entire lifetimes many times over. For that kind of money, we'd have to be going undefeated with back to back championships for me to think anyone was worth it. Let alone what Tua has produced.

You living in the past too much now

He’s 27 now and trending backwards, earlier this year he’s making decisions that are unacceptable in this competitive sport

However for this year and this run they are trying to make

I do think there could be a chance for Tua to rebound almost like a reset of style of play

considering we are and should continue to be run heavy this should reverse the mindset and strategy of future def coordinators, he should be able to take advantage of that shift and allow it to restore his ability to deceive with his ball skills and hit his shots with more accuracy more often
I am not living in the past. I have repeatedly said that this year he hasn’t been the same but I will not deny what he has done in the past.

Do you not think JA's running ability, Or PM's ability to ad lib and improvise on broken plays are big factors in their success at playing the position? Do you not think Montana or Brady's ability to go next level in high pressure situations was what separated them from guys of equal or better physical ability made them elite?

While I will agree that it isn't something tangible, Some guys rise to the occasion at a higher rate than others.

Late in the fourth quarter of game 7 of the NBA finals, do you want a guy like MJ or Bird?, Or guys like KD or Westbrook with the ball in his hands?

It is bunk..... If anything, it is the lack of shrinking in situations, not going "next level". And, as always, it is largely dependent on having an adequate supporting cast (see Mahomes in the last SB). Here is where we must differ, I don't blame Mahomes for not going next level....... I blame the OL for sucking the whole game..... How about you? Did Mahomes shrink under the pressure?

Specific to Tua, we can debate whether the issue is him shrinking or his OL not being good enough.
So, did Josh Allen shrink under pressure? Did he not have "it"? Or...... did the OL play terrible, leaving Allen in a bad situation, on the road, against a good defense, it a CRITICAL game, under the bright lights in prime time???? Which is it? Most will blame the Bills OL but if it was the Dolphins, the same people blame Tua. 8 sacks,. 2 INTs. No TDs. Game ending INT. Tua would be getting roasted.

Don't get it twisted. Allen is the better QB, but talking about the QB when your OL sucks is POINTLESS. No QB will be consistent behind the one of the worst OLs in the league.

Crunch time play. 4th down. WIDE OPEN receiver at the sticks. Big pocket. Allen gets happy feet, bails out, and throws off balance to the wrong receiver. Result? Game ending INT. Why? Because regular pressure from just 4 rushers messes with QBs. It extends to plays where you have room. It messes with the clock in your head. You become less willing to stand in and take shots. Now let him face this for a season and a half......

Y’all keep throwing out this $50M number but that’s an average of a very back loaded contract.

Tua only counted approx $10M against the cap in 2024 and nearly $40M this year. He’s counted $50M total for the past 2 seasons which is fair market or arguably a bargain.

Yall are really going to be upset when his cap hit jumps another $16M to $56M next season.

Every QB does better against weaker teams.

In 2023, he was 2nd in passing yards per game. Who would’ve had more passing yards if they hadn’t been injured? Try again….

Joe Burrow was on par for an MVP worthy season numbers wise in 2023 had he not gotten injured and his season was cut short.

Same applies for Justin Herbert that same season.

What are you talking about??? Burrow and Herbert had lower YPG, lower passer rating, lower QBR, lower completion %, lower success %, lower TD %, lower YPA, etc, etc, etc. They were lower in almost every possible category.

Tua is making what other good teams pay their QB. The difference is good GM’s signed better players around their QB’s.

Tua had a lot of high caliber weapons. To be honest, he had better "quality" weapons than Marino ever did (HIll and Waddle are better than Clayton/Duper). Mostert/Achane were better than any backs Marino had. I will give you, Tua's offensive lines have been suspect.

Interesting. Hill is, imo, the best of the WR’s mentioned. Im not sure Waddle is better than Clayton or Duper. Can’t concede that. I’d take Duper or Clayton.

You didn’t mention TEs. Marino had better targets - Hardy, Edmunds, Jackson, etc.

RBs… not a clear cut winner. Achane is good. Explosive. We will see how long he lasts. Tony Nathan as good as Mostert.

Good post. Good discussion. Marino had better coaches.

Absolutely not!!!

It’s not fair to compare Marino’s weapons vs Tua’s. WRs today would have been on IR in the 80s and 90s
