I recognize that everyone is frustrated and there has been years of this and that. Let's look at a positive here.
I have seen and agreed with banter that we should build through the draft and with a new regime etc etc....and I agree.
Give it a chance but consider this.....
We lose OV who got 17 M per year plus but get a comp pick like a 3 and sign Williams for 8 M per.
We lose Miller (whom I love) but he got a ton of guaranteed money, but we get a comp pick like a 4th.
We gain Alonso and Maxwell but lose 5 spots. I get it. Last year these were two very sought after players. I get that they under performed last year but Alonso could be a steal at his cost and we have his FA rights next year.
We get a safety that appears to be ascending and fills a need.
So far, I am not too upset.
Now lets get some OL and I think this will be a good start.

If the idea is back up all these aged and often injured FA's with quality draft picks for depth and to take their place down the road I can get behind this strategy.

I totally agree, lets wait and see. I hate the fact so many people feel the fins have failed because they didn't sign the players the fans wanted. Defense was a complete mess last year and should been addressed first. Now fix the OL and get a quality RB and the fins will be just fine..

agreed. I am pretty hopeful actually

Its almost like the strategy is lets get some vets on the field (so it doesnt seem like a real rebuild) but the long range plan is to actually do what you stated. Thats what I was thinking about as things are unfolding.

I guess we will see when the draft rolls around. Hope they will still have CB , LB and OL high on the boards and not just plug in a FA and forget about the future at these positions. That's how we got into this mess to start with.

I think you don't understand how comp pics are awarded. Each free agent signed crosses off one free agent lost. How they are crossed off is arranged into tiers. We only get comp pics if we lose more than we gain.

Also Alonso is an unrestricted free agent after this year so if he does well you'll have to pay him.

If that's the case and we build through the draft, I'm on board.

A few of my Giants friends texted me asking if Vernon was good. For that contract you should already know....

I'm not fretting this nearly as much as a lot of people. I like some of the moves, and I dislike some of the moves. I'm not going to let it ruin my life though lol

I like what we've done so far, really love the free safety signing. Could be a steal. Now we need to sign another corner and a guard and we are set for the draft.

I am surprised that the team lost both Vernon and Miller. Tough to get over that.

I like Jay Ajayi and maybe he can get those tough yards that weren't Miller's forte. It's odd, but I don't think the team thought as highly of Miller as the fans do. There are a lot of decent running backs that can be found in the mid to late rounds of the draft almost every year, though. I think the team will go that route, unless Zeke Elliott drops to #13. He could be a consideration there.

I think the trade with Philly was creative in that Miami wasn't going to compete for the top free agents based on the salary cap other teams have. The Dolphins get two starters who have played well in the past. I think Maxwell fits the Dolphins scheme better than the Eagles. Alonso, when healthy, is a huge, huge upgrade over any other linebacker currently on this roster. Can he stay healthy? It's a gamble for sure.

The team is concentrating on improving the secondary, which I like. Not sure what's left on the offensive line and that remains somewhat troubling even though it is still early in free agency.

You can probably check middle linebacker off the list in the early rounds of the draft. That was a huge need for the team. I would still look mid to late rounds for someone who can develop and provide depth. Plan B, in case of injury, could again be Koa Misi.

The team now badly needs a young pass rusher with Williams and Wake the only threats (and over 30). I think that has to be an early draft target in either round 1 or round 2. Shutdown corner or close to that, two guards. Still lots of things to sort through.
