Like everyone else, I'm bummed about the Cincinnati game. There are a bunch of negatives. In fact, almost every thread in this forum is a thread about a different negative, because there are a lot of negatives. This thread isn't for that stuff. There are plenty of other threads to discuss the negatives. I just thought it might be worthwhile to point out some of the few positives that do not really fit into all of those other negative threads. For instance ...
1. Kiko Alonso played pretty well all things considered. He made a lot of stops at or behind the LOS and was good in both run support and coverage. He even did well in a few pass rushes as well.
2. Xavien Howard may not be able to cover AJ Green 1v1, but almost nobody can. For a rookie, I think he has shown amazingly well, and was definitely our best CB. He is strong in run support, covers all over the field, and rarely allows a lot of separation. He hasn't been a penalty magnate, hasn't bitten on double-moves, and hasn't had trouble with speed or tackling. I'm quite happy with him.
3. Our run defense was better this game. It is a comparative statement. We're not good at it, but we're less bad.
4. I was pleased with Tunsil at LT and Turner at LG. I think we saw what we expected from Tunsil at LT, which is dominance on most plays and a few rookie moments. Turner surprised me. He played OK pass protection and this was probably his best game ever opening holes in the run game.
5. Jay Ajayi finally had a chance to show his ability. He caught the ball, didn't fumble, and showed better vision. When he actually had run lanes (usually created by Turner and Tunsil), he ran hard and earned extra yards. IMHO, he was clearly our best back. But, I've been a J-Train fan since he arrived, so this is what I was expecting would happen if we actually opened some holes for him.
6. Reshad Jones is excellent.
7. Ndomakong Suh is excellent.
Well, those are my 7 positives. What positives do you see? (Note: Sarcasm not requested .... snarky comments have plenty of other threads where they will be more appreciated)
