Like everyone else, I'm bummed about the Cincinnati game. There are a bunch of negatives. In fact, almost every thread in this forum is a thread about a different negative, because there are a lot of negatives. This thread isn't for that stuff. There are plenty of other threads to discuss the negatives. I just thought it might be worthwhile to point out some of the few positives that do not really fit into all of those other negative threads. For instance ...

1. Kiko Alonso played pretty well all things considered. He made a lot of stops at or behind the LOS and was good in both run support and coverage. He even did well in a few pass rushes as well.

2. Xavien Howard may not be able to cover AJ Green 1v1, but almost nobody can. For a rookie, I think he has shown amazingly well, and was definitely our best CB. He is strong in run support, covers all over the field, and rarely allows a lot of separation. He hasn't been a penalty magnate, hasn't bitten on double-moves, and hasn't had trouble with speed or tackling. I'm quite happy with him.

3. Our run defense was better this game. It is a comparative statement. We're not good at it, but we're less bad.

4. I was pleased with Tunsil at LT and Turner at LG. I think we saw what we expected from Tunsil at LT, which is dominance on most plays and a few rookie moments. Turner surprised me. He played OK pass protection and this was probably his best game ever opening holes in the run game.

5. Jay Ajayi finally had a chance to show his ability. He caught the ball, didn't fumble, and showed better vision. When he actually had run lanes (usually created by Turner and Tunsil), he ran hard and earned extra yards. IMHO, he was clearly our best back. But, I've been a J-Train fan since he arrived, so this is what I was expecting would happen if we actually opened some holes for him.

6. Reshad Jones is excellent.

7. Ndomakong Suh is excellent.

Well, those are my 7 positives. What positives do you see? (Note: Sarcasm not requested .... snarky comments have plenty of other threads where they will be more appreciated)

No, Bushrod at RG and James at RT were disasters, Turner at LG opened up several run holes and was better than he was all last season.

Tunsil did a solid job but Turner was beaten often in pass protection. Hard to miss the guy in dreads getting beat or pushed back into the QB.

Bushrod was much better than Turner in this game. That is not even a question. Turner was about as bad as Dallas Thomas has ever been in a game and that is saying something.

I agree with most of your points except Turner. He looked flat-footed and got beat way too many times. James is looking worse and worse by the week. What's up with him?

Alonso was good, so was Paysinger. Butler looked slow and out of place but he may get better with more action.

Howard is legitimate, I believe he can be a solid number 1 corner and he needs this experience to get better. Lippett has decent cover skills but he doesn't have the downfield speed or press physicality you look for.

Urbrick was decent, and Tunsil was pretty good too.

Billy Turner is horrible in pass pro.

Turner was bad but not Dallas Thomas bad. He had no feel to follow the DL in pass pro but he was solid at run blocking. Bushrod however, man, he got bullrushed straight into Tannehill twice. One time it was so bad he got pushed back so far his butt knocked over Tannehill. Then again, he was one on one with Atkins in pass pro most of the night. Should've helped him more.

Yea I didn't mean to make it seem like Bushrod had a good game. Tunsil was fine and Urbik was adequate . . . Everybody else was terrible.

At the 1:30 mark (below), Bushrod sacks Tannehill. No Bengals player touches Tannehill. Really ugly play.

Honestly a great move from Geno Atkins moving off Turner and curling around to attack Bushrod who could not get set in time after helping Urbik with a block.

It looks bad on Bushrod with the end result but that was a great move by Atkins.

I wasn't able to see the whole game, but of what I did see, I thought Bobby McCain was effective as well.

We need a healthy Culliver something fierce; or, we could just start dumping veterans and salary and go for developing our younger players.

Turner should be cut after that performance. He's Dallas Thomas bad.
