At a time when most coaches, General Managers, or owners who are addressing publicly the question of whether their respective teams will make a run at quarterback Mike Vick suggest that a relationship isn't in the offing, the ever-vague Bill Belichick offered up some of his patented ambiguity on Thursday.

"Michael is an outstanding player, you know, hasn't played in a couple years," Belichick said, per Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald. "But right now, our focus is on our team and our player, trying to get the New England Patriots ready. That's where my attention has been. But exactly where he is right now, I don't know."

You'll notice it's not a "no, not now" or a "no, not ever" from Belichick. Using the same word-parsing that Belichick applied two years ago to the rules regarding the videotaping of defensive coaching signals, all Belichick really said was that he's not aware of Vick's current geographic location.

Meanwhile, Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald is convinced that the Pats will make a run at Vick, based on Darlington's belief that the Patriots wanted to land Pat White in round two of the 2009 draft.

We've previously heard a rumor or two linking Vick to the Patriots. The sticking point, if there's mutual interest, could be that the Pats will want a multi-year deal, and that Vick would prefer a one-year arrangement, which would allow him to pursue a starting job elsewhere in 2010.

Others believe that Vick is destined for New England. LaVar Arrington, formerly of the Redskins and Giants, said during our spot on his new D.C. radio show that he thinks the Pats are the odds-on favorites to get Vick, given that Belichick can provide the right structure -- and that the fan base will be inclined to get in line behind the team.

I agree this is a very low risk move that can only make the Pats even more prepared for the wildcat. Who better to prepare u for the wildcat then the best running qb in the history of the nfl.

Think that move would make alot of sense for both th Pats and Vick. Because of Belichicks history of picking up controversial players, the fans will not get on his back over the move. Vick in NE makes sense because Belichick will keep close taps on him and allow him to find his feet as a reserve QB.

Why would you take the ball out of Brady's hands? No way the Pats go after Vick.

If it happens, it happens. I don't know if the fanbase would like having that scumbag living amongst them for half the year but hey if they decided to run his *** out of town, I wouldn't complain.

Not worried b/c which ever team does sign him will be cursed forever.

If Brady is healthy, the only snaps he'd take would be in the preseason.

If they do sign him, I think he'd be in the backfield with Brady.

I can see BB pulling the trigger on this as long as Vick would sign at least a 2yr deal. Then the Pats would trade him for apick or two next year prior to the draft.

I think its stupid to ever take your starting qb out for a lesser qb but thats the plan for us this year as it seems

Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald sent PFT a whopper.

Darlington cites a "very reliable NFL source" that Vick was on the field in Foxborough at 3:30 PM working out for the Patriots

Well, Belichick is a very clever, shrewd b****rd. He may in fact be the best coach in the NFL at the moment, and I have heard it said that he is the best ever head coach. So, if anyone can find a use for Vick, it will be Billy Boy. It is clear that there is no way that they would pick Vick as purely a #2 QB, Belichick would no doubt utilise him in far more imaginative ways than that. So, for that reason I am pretty worried about that possibilty...even though I never rated Vick as as a true QB per se.

Personally I would rank him as one of th possible best coaches ever. I have never seen any coach do so much with so little. Head coach of three super bowl victories. Architect of the great defense that won two super bowls with the Giants.

This reminds me of the Jason Taylor-to-the-Patriots story that were heard about non stop earlier in the year, as well as the Julius Pepper's-to-the-Patriot's story before that. Why is it that every time a big name player becomes available everyone assumes that they are going to the Patriots? :ponder:

Dolphin fans don't want Vick, but also don't want the Pats to get him...Double edge sword of sorts.
