After the draft was complete I looked back at all the players we drafted and overall I felt that we made some strides and laid a good foundation to build on. The d-linemen and the o-linemen were necessary because those positions had been some what neglected in past drafts.
Having said that, looking back on the draft made me realize that there was one position we didn't improve at in the off season....cornerback. I know some of you may say TE and MLB was ignored, but I think the addition of Fasano and AA with the 4th round pick was a smart decision and flew under the radar. But the need for another CB to pair with Will Allen is greatly needed.
The current trend in the NFL is to spread the ball out with multiple WRs and throw the ball (we can thank NE for that). To compete with this growing trend teams need to create a good pass rush and also have 3 to 4 corners that can cover well. We have a few guys in Daniels, Lehan, and Goodman that can play in nickel and dime situations and provide depth, but we are lacking a true NFL corner to pair with Allen, and the need should be addressed soon.
There are many possible scenarios to improve this spot, but the one scenario that I've been thinking about involves Parcells' old team the Cowboys. The Cowboys wanted help at corner due to the fact that their corners are aging and can't seem to stay healthy at the same time. So they made the trade and sign for Pacman Jones and then drafted Mike Jenkins. The Boys now have 4 starting corners on their roster in Newman, Henry, Jones, and Jenkins.
There seems to be too many guys at this position, so I could see the possibility of Henry being released by Dallas. He seems to be the odd man out, but I believe he could be a good fit in Miami because of four reasons:
1. He is a veteran that can come in and provide leadership.
2. He was originally signed to Dallas by Parcells, so they have a connection.
3. He has worked with this staff before in Dallas, so he understands the scheme.
4. Most importantly, he is from Florida and played at USF so he might feel the urge to return home and finish his career here.
This is just one way we could possibly fill our corner spot. I'm sure you guys have heard of some other suggestions. What would you like to see the team do? Any input is welcome.
