This is all hypothetical depending on how the year goes, but the one consistent has been the criticism of Jeff Ireland. As the season goes on, whether or not we turn it around remains to be seen but I think it's becoming very apparent that Jeff Ireland is once again on thin ice. Don't use his extension as a crutch either, Tony Sparano also got an extension before we fired him. This thread is to give the Miami board a few names to look for if in fact D-Day comes for Ireland....

Omar Khan- Director of Football Administration Pittsburgh Steelers If we are to go for a GM, this man is the apple of my eye. Khan has been Kevin Colbert's (aka most underrated GM in football) right hand man since 2001... and he's only 36. Khan is also the guy that Bill Cowher constantly told teams that have approached him to be the HC that he wanted hired to run the team. Pittsburgh, despite struggles this year, has constantly been one of the best organizations since Khan has been there.

Matt Russell-Director of Player Personnel Denver Broncos Now the one downside is that Russell did get suspended by Denver for a DUI this summer celebrating his birthday. But Russell has been a scout for the Eagles and Patriots between 2001 and 2008; during the best drafting years for those teams. Was taught by Thomas Dimitroff.

Marc Ross- Vice President of Player Evaluations New York Giants Jerry Reese's right hand man since joinging the Giants. Promoted this year after being the Giants top college scout since 2007. May be a tough get as he was promoted, but anybody who Jerry Reese is willing to do anything to keep is a guy worth looking into.

Tim Terry Assistant Director of Player Personnel-Green Bay Packers As much as I'd love to get Eliot Wolf, he's not leaving Green Bay, but Terry might. Terry is Wolf's right hand man.

Terry Fontenot Director of Pro Scouting- New Orleans Saints Been a pro scout with the Saints as long as Sean Peyton has been there, and has had a variety of scouting positions with the Saints for 11 years.

Taylor Morton- Director of College Scouting- St Louis Rams One of 2 Rams assistants I'm really high on (Other being Ran Carthon Director of Pro Scouting) Morton and Carthon both came with Les Snead from Atlanta and have been critical in helping the Rams accumulate the young talent they have. Morton makes the list over Carthon based on experience in the front office.

Joel Patten-Director of Player Personnel San Francisco 49ers- He's listed at this position on the 9ers website, and has spent the last several years as Director of College Scouting. 9ers have consistently been one of the best drafting teams while he's been with the team. Has worked closely with Trent Baalke since 2004.

Joe Hortiz- Director of College Scouting Baltimore Ravens Normally can't go wrong with a Baltimore Assitant. spent the last 5 seasons as the team's head scout. Been a scout with the team since 1998.

Lake Dawson- VP of Player Personnel Tennessee Titans Helped build the Seattle Seahawks roster that went to the Super Bowl in 2006, and has been a top assistant with the Titans since 2007. Head of both the pro and college scouting deparments. Having the title of VP may make it hard to get an interview as I don't know if becoming GM is considered a promotion.

Nick Caserio- Director of Player Personnel New England Patriots Been with the Patriots since 2001 and has been the right hand man to Billicheck since 2008. Also served as WR coach during the Pats undefeated regular season.

T. J. McCreight Director of College Scouting Indianapolis Colts Started his career as a scout with Baltimore and went to Cleveland with Phil Savage. Was a finalist for the GM opening in Cleveland in 2009 but was passed over for Eric Mangini and former collegue George Kokinis. Has been with the Colts ever since.

Now there are more names out there that are appealing, but this is just a quick shortlist. Also note that a lot of fans wanted Baltimore's current assistant GM Eric DeCosta in the past. While he'd be a great look, his recent extension with the Ravens all but assures that he will be Ozzie Newsome's replacement when he retires.

Terry would be the play if Ross wanted to keep Philbin and move forward with this offensive philosophy in place.

That's a great list you compiled. I'd be happy if we brought in any of these five. I think the key is finding someone that has been in an organization that has been able to maintain competitiveness over a long period of time, something we haven't been able to accomplish.

I know this is the wrong philosphy, but at this point I could care less who the GM is, just not Ireland. So many people have defended him this year after he went out and spent most of our salary cap on what a great job he did. Well, sorry, it now clear he just went out and drafted and spent on the easy/biggest names without the slightest thought of fit, character or dynamics of the team whatsoever. I know coaching has a little bit of the blame here, but it all starts with ownership and the GM. Since we can't dump the owner, the GM has to go! We've given him enough chances and he keeps failing. How long do we keep supporting a GM that doesn't get the job done.

It's more than just that, it's looking at what their track record is. I looked into the track record of everybody on that list and a few others before putting the topic together. There are some names I looked at that at first glance seemed like good choices, but doing research on them had be go away from them.

If we were to fire Ireland and you'd ask me what I'd do I'd tell Ross to do whatever it took to get Omar Khan or Marc Ross here. If the issue is that those teams deny interview requests then that's another issue we can't really do anything about.

What GM wants to come in with Aponte lurking?

A second thanks for taking the time to post the list. I think the focus (GM coaching) needs to be on getting this offense to be able to score points. It would be great if we could score at least 24-30 points a game I think we would see a marked improvement in the W-L. How many years have we been saying this? Take a look at this list with points per game being the last column.

Duke Tobin - Bengals. I also like Eric Mangini.

Sad thing is, our former GM, now in Minn is one spot worse than where we currently are at. Woo Hoo, we improved one spot! :rolleyes2:

None.

Also, what do you know about Eliot Wolf? I know you think it's unlikely, but IIRC Ron Wolf lives down here and has recommended his son for the job before. There have been rumblings previously that he might like to be closer to his dad.
