It's a legit story involving a professional athlete. I don't see why he or any other sports writer/reporter shouldn't cover it. Football fans are likely the most interested audience, so it makes sense to see sports writers covering this.
What evidence do we have that Pouncey is cooperating? He was subpoenaed. That certainly raises the possibility, perhaps even the likelihood, that he was given an opportunity to cooperate and refused. And if that's the case, and if he's not forthcoming in that grand jury room, he might very well find himself charged with some kind of crime before too long. The prosecutors think Hernandez is responsible for as many as three murders despite this case being about just the one. This is very serious stuff and they've already jailed a couple of people in connection with this case.
