Mike Pouncey's brother got a huge 5 year $44M deal from Pitt of all people. Mike is better, and could be looking for an Albert type deal, based on market value. I don't see a center being worth that much, and could pose a cap problem. I have to wonder if a trade is in his future.

Our OL questions will not go away.

Eh.... $2 above Mack's deal.

It's a nice feather in the cap for Maurkice to be the "highest paid center", blah blah....

I expect a similar deal. Nothing crazy

If it wasn't an ideal scheme fit I'd think a trade would be likely. I'd imagine Lazor pounds the table to make a deal happen.

Mike will get a similar deal from the Dolphins next offseason.

That kind of contract would be affordable IF the young, cheap guys work out at OG and RT. If not, it will be a tuff decision with a huge contract hopefully looming for Tannehill, and many other questions. Is a center now worth as much as a LT?

Maybe he looks elsewhere. This franchise and some of the fanbase have a way of backing the bus over their own players.

I hope he plays out his rookie contract and goes to the highest bidder. Maybe another franchise can appreciate the work he does.

Hopefully the sticker shock drives us away. One of the few positives to keeping Philbin is that he seems to be aware that Pouncey is a ****head who's not worth the trouble long term. A new coach -- even a really smart one -- might just see a guy he can "fix", not knowing that "you can't fix stupid" applies to him, too.

It's too bad there was apparently no way to pry Alex Mack away from the Browns. If you're going to fall prey to a sudden rush of blood to the head and give a center -- or any offensive lineman -- that kind of money, you might as well give it to a better player who's also not a sociopath.

Yeah, Pouncey has a lot of talent and a VG fit but, has not proven to be top 10 the last two years, as well as his brother. Maybe I'm wrong on the value of a center but, don't see paying him that much.

We have Pouncey under contract for 2014 and 2015. 2 years before he becomes a free agent. At that point his brothers contract will be irrelevant.

Mike is not *my* Pouncey.... praise Jeebus.

I hope Tyler Larsen works out so there will be 1 less headcase from Gainesville on the phins roster in a few yrs.

The contract given this week to Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey has a signing bonus of $13 million — more than Kaepernick. It has no other “guaranteed” money.

The absence of other “guaranteed” money quietly has become the Steelers way. From players like Troy Polamalu ($10.5 million to sign, no other guarantees) to linebacker LaMarr Woodley ($13 million to sign, no other guarantees) to receiver Antonio Brown ($8.5 million to sign, no other guarantees) to linebacker Lawrence Timmons ($7.125 million to sign, no other guarantees), that’s how the Steelers do it.

The biggest exception has been Ben Roethlisberger, whose 2008 extension had a signing bonus north of $25 million and another $8 million in guaranteed salary over the first two years of the contract.

Savvy of the Steelers and an organizational "principle" i could actually get behind. They have given themselves room to cut their Pouncey if he acts similar to ours.

I have a difficult time imagining the Dolphins making a similar deal. We seem to enjoy throwing boatloads of guaranteed cash into our deals. As well, i imagine our headcase will learn the downsides of this deal from his brother and demand some security. I suspect this could drag on a bit next offseason. Hopefully we ultimately decide its not worth the trouble.

We have no reason to extend Pouncey anytime soon. Let him play out contract and make decision. At worst you franchise him.

Why do we care about a Steelers signing? Shouldn't this go in the NFL thread and not the Dolphins thread...

everyone speculating about a deal that won't happen for another 2 years....pouncey will determine his value with his behavior in these next few seasons, and I have a feeling it will either be nice fat deal or cut bait.
