I think we should move Pouncey to RG and Jordan to Sam Linebacker in our base defense. There are a few good centers in free agency like Alex Mack, Brian De La Puente, and Evan Dietrich-Smith. And in the draft Travis Swanson from Arkansas. Pouncey was an All-American at RG at Florida. Misi's contract is terrible makes him one of the top paid 4-3 outside linebackers for a 2 down player. I think we would be better off having Jordan play Sam in our base and play DE in nickel.

Alex Mack can play guard, too. He's an excellent one. Ultimately I doubt the Browns let him get away but I know what you mean. I made a long post a little while back detailing the free agent linemen who are coming up and one strategy I would definitely contemplate is moving Pouncey to guard for one of these centers who are available.

What's your feeling on Anthony Collins? I think we should look hard at signing him or Rodger Saffold. Maybe both.

On the other hand I don't at all agree about Jordan. He's a DE and should stay there. I like Misi as a two down guy. To be honest I think he should play three downs. He's always been good in space. Just needs to clean up his eye discipline and no get too over aggressive.

misi would get torched in man coverage at lb down the field if he played every down...

And which of our linebackers wouldn't? Not too many linebackers in the league wouldn't, honestly, which is why you don't see it often.

I think we should sign Collins to a 2 year deal and have him start at LT. Jordan also played nickel corner at times for Oregon and covered kick-offs all 4 years on the fastest team in the country

I wish we had kept Tony McDaniel and played a 34. Soliai on the nose with Odrick and Starks as ends with McDaniel rotating at end.

I stand by my view that we should keep both Starks and Soliai. How many freaking Marvin Austins come through here before we realize its a crapshoot. If you have strong d linemen, you keep them. If you were around from about 1985 to 1995 or so, in the height of Danny's powers, we could never find D linemen. I mean, Chuck Klingbeil, Brian Sochia, Alfred Oglesby, TJ Turner, blah blah blah. I am still traumatized.

Sorry but this is one of the dumbest ideas ever regarding Pouncey Hes arguably the best center in the NFL and you want to switch his position?

I realize that. But this is a raw guy. Let him focus on his #1 job, which is -- or at least should be -- getting after the quarterback as a LDE. Let him focus on getting stronger, on using his hands, on setting the edge, on developing counter moves, and so on.

The movement skills, the coverage experience, it's a nice arrow in his quiver but I don't look at it as more than that. It's like Tannehill's ability to run and catch. Nice to have. But I'm not spending too much time on it.

I'd agree that you normally wouldn't switch a top flight center to guard. However, Pouncey may be a special case. Our snap counts are brutal, with the other side timing the snaps way too well. The sense is that Pouncey has been part of the problem.

How so? Arguably the best center in the NFL? Not even close.. THAT is one of the dumbest things I've seen in a while. Top 10? Yes, but arguably the best? :chuckle: he was an All-American at RG, and is a better fit as a guard, than a center. I said that the day we drafted him.

Nickel Defense plays 40-60% of the snaps in the NFL. He will still be mainly a pass rusher. But he weighs 245lbs... he has a long ways to go till he is an edge setter. Why not get your best players on the field and have him Wake and Vernon out there all at once??

The thought of moving Pouncy to guard is talked about a lot around here. I too don't get it. We have our best center since Dwight Stephenson and people would rather move him instead of building around him. He's our anchor on the OL and a great player. Leave him at center please.

It's very simple. HE WILL BE A BETTER PLAYER AT GUARD

As a SOLB he isn't one of our best players on the field. Misi takes on fullbacks and tight ends and is better against the pass (not rushing, but in coverage) and the run right now.

245 lbs isn't the barrier. It's his technique and his strength (getting that shoulder right especially). Wake isn't that much heavier and Taylor played basically his whole career at that weight.

I don't care much for Vernon as a pass rusher, to be honest. He's a nice hustle player, but not an edge pass rusher. If you actually looking to replace Misi, you could do worse than having Vernon drop some weight and do it. Right now Vernon does his best work against guards and on second effort plays.
