Predicting the exact players for a given draft class is a crap shoot, but predicting the positions they will target is a bit more useful. So what are your thoughts?

This is what I think:

Round 1: LB
Round 2: OT
Round 3: RB
Round 4: OG
Round 5: WR
Round 6: S
Round 7: OG

Round 1: RT
Round 2: RG
Round 3: RB
Round 4: LB
Round 5: WR
Round 6: OG
Round 7: FS

I like your first three but would be ok if they went OL then LB depending on who's available when they pick. i would also add a disclaimer that if a top talent at ANY position fall to us we grab him and still fill our needs in later rounds. I might also move S up the list as i'm not sold on the new guy they brought in from Detroit.

Round 1: DE who can't crack the starting lineup
Round 2: RG who can't crack the starting lineup
Round 3: TE who can't block, get separation or split the seam
Round 4: Acorn who doesn't make the team
Round 5: Acorn who plays for one year on special teams
Round 6: Acorn who never sees the field
Round 7: Acorn who doesn't survive two weeks of training camp.

Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot that Jeff Ireland isn't making the picks any more.

I was very critical of Ireland and didn't think he was a good GM, but I'm not sure I understand the hate for the late rounds picks. He was probably one of the better GMs at finding late round talent and UDFA's. Since 2010 this is our 5-7 round picks:

2010: Nolan Carroll, Reshad Jones, Chris Mccoy, Austin Spitler

2011: Charles Clay, Frank Kearse, Jimmy Wilson

2012: Josh Kaddu, BJ Cunningham, Kheeston Randall, Rishard Matthews

2013: Mike Gillislee, Caleb Sturgis, Don Jones

I think every 7th rounder except for Kearse and Mccoy were on the 53 man roster at some point.

So all in all 2 starting DB's in Carroll and Jones, Starting TE in Clay, slot corner/backup S in Wilson, a solid no. 4 receiver in Matthews who was solid in relief of Gibson last year, and a kicker who had a pretty bad year, but really wasn't bad scouting considering all he was at florida was an accurate, strong legged, clutch kicker who everyone on this forum wanted at some point in that draft.

Criticize the rest of the drafts, but IMO he was able to hit on the later rounds, which you also have to give big credit to our scouts that he hired.

Round 1: LG (Zack Martin)
Round 2: CB
Round 3: RT
Round 4: RB (Lache Seastrunk)
Round 5: RG
Round 6: WR (Jeff Janis)
Round 7: DL
UDFA: CB's with potential like Shaquille Richardson or Dexter McDougal

It will be interesting to see how we do ... or even if we have a single selection in each round when it is all said and done.

The entire post was satire and was intended to generate a laugh. I apologize to those who did not see it.

I know it was a satirical post, just giving some insight into his drafting in the later rounds. While I was responding to your post, I was kind of speaking generally as it seems forgotten just how good we did in the later rounds with Ireland/his scouts.

I'll give him credit for Jones.....Clay has been a good player for us but Ireland messed up big time by not drafting Gronk or Graham....you can call Caroll a starter if you like but he only started due to injuries. Out of all those players only Clay and Jones have made an impact and Jones disapeared last year. I think Ireland drafted wrong across the board.

Ozzy rules!!

Oh Ireland's definitely missed on guys, that's easy to see. But, Clay was a great 6th round pick regardless, so I'm not going to take away Ireland's ability to find him just because his stupidity to skip on Graham or Gronk. Carroll can be considered a nickel corner then I guess, still a good pick in the sixth, and did a very good job of replacing Patterson via injury. Jones disappearing really had a lot to do with the linebacker core, and I want to see him paired with Delmas to see how he plays. Either way, he was still a good pick in the 5th, finding a starting player in any of the late rounds is a rarity.

Wilson certainly had an impact on this team last year defending the slot, he was ranked as one of the better players in the nfl at it. For a 7th rounder that is certainly a solid pick. Rishard Matthews looked really good with Tannehill last season, and for a 7th round WR that usually is lucky to get out of the PS he's definitely outplayed his draft status.

When you look at 7th rounders you're lucky to get a solid special teams guy that can make the 53, even though Don Jones didn't have a big impact, his special teams play helped us beat Atlanta last year. I feel his late round picks were fine, if you can find 16 teams since 2010 with better late round drafting, I'll be glad to take back my statement, I just feel our drafts were fine in the bottom part of it.
