Several FinHeaven board members have been critical of the Adam Gase hire, which makes sense given how burned the fans and players have been by horrific coaching and even more horrific decision-making by the gargoyle known as Stephen Ross. That said, don't sleep on the significance of this Adam Gase hire. He is young, intelligent, respected, shows very little in the way of favoritism to underperforming players, and tailors his schemes to his players instead of the other way around (cough, Philbin, cough, Lazor, cough, Coyle, cough).

But by and large you could argue one of Gase's biggest positive attributes is his ability to communicate. I've been watching his press conferences for years because they actually SAY SOMETHING. Even when his head coaches were doing that drivel coach speak of "We just gotta win" and "We'll go back and look at the tape" (a Joe Philbin favorite), Adam Gase was specifically discussing how defensive schemes had been exploited, how he was tailoring his offense to each individual player, and even making comedic references to Bull Durham and Monty Python. With the smart, measured, approachable way that he speaks he actually reminds me a lot more of Chad Pennington than your run of the mill head coach. For a young team needing direction, this type of personality will make a big difference.

To put his ability to communicate in "Dolphins" terms we can wrap our minds around: Tony Sparano was like some meathead uncle we had, who grunted out nothingspeak derived from motivational posters and whose answer to performing better was, "We just gotta win". Joe Philbin was like a senile-sounding grandpa we had, who stared confusingly with his mouth agape at the young whippersnappers running around him, stuttering through cue cards from Dawn Aponte that this team just needed to "not turn the ball over"...Adam Gase is much more the studied tactician, who comes across as that friend you had in college that was WAY smarter than you were, but was still nice and humble enough to grab a beer with you after class. He is going to work with his coordinators to attempt to outsmart his opponents, and will hold his players accountable for executing those gameplans.

Anyhoo, some food for thought as we await our new head coach stepping to the podium. Time will tell if this team performs better...but we at least will SOUND SMARTER in an attempt to be less of an embarrassment as a franchise...(glances at Stephen Ross)...well, at least the head coach will.

Not going to buy what they're trying to sell. They have done nothing, proved nothing, but they'll sit around patting each other on the back. Have fun with that. Miami Dolphins, offseason champs every year.

Very Good stuff

Dont like Rossbaum. Its always a pretty picture at first glance.

Sorry but after 20 years of failed promises and hollow words more of them arent gonna do **** for me

I can't disagree, and this response is completely deserved. The Dolphins have done nothing to dissuade it. My belief is that with a hole this deep to claw out of, no single move will turn everything around instantly. This IS a step in the right direction though.

No dude, I doubt it. There are some real raw nerves still going on here. For me I guess I've had longer to get over it. I checked out after week #12 or so.

Communication is all well and good, but his resume has some major question marks. His resume as a coach is less than extensive, not overly impressive, and if what I read is accurate he didn't even play football in high school.

It's a boom or bust hire, with a lot of risk. I think that the timing of this gamble is awful, a hiring disaster at this point in time is going to be devastating to the organization. I would have much preferred a more known commodity.

Have to agree with this. Every press conference has been a rah rah session about how Dolphins need to change the culture, start winning games and this move is about getting to that place. Same stuff every time. I can pretty much predict Gase will say there's a lot of talent here, he thinks he can win now, he will tailor the offense around the talent..something nice about Tannenbaum and Ross...maybe even something about Grier (who doesn't have a spot on the table...anyone surprised?).

Rumors are he's going to hire Joseph the DB coach of the Bengals to be his DC. So a first time HC is going to hire a first time DC...I could swear we did this 4 years ago. Except Coyle at least had been a DC at the college level at Fresno State. Joseph has only been a DB coach his entire coaching career. So here we go again.

Yep, was going to say this exactly. I will add to it that it's being reported he will keep DC on staff, who outside of the last 3/4 of this season has never been anything but a position coach.

We have all seen this before, we know how it ends...

All i want to know is is he gonna call the plays or is he gonna let someone else to do it...if hes not that will sour it for me...if hes so damn genius offensively than he was hired to serve as hc and play caller

And of course i want to hear full audible system for the qb we are going to if he gets that specific which i doubt he will

You got your wish, according to what he said in his presser!!

I didn't really hear anything that changed my mind during this press conference. I still wish someone with head coaching experience was standing on that podium.

Well i love the hire, the pc was ok, he was very nervous in his statement but fine after that. Enjoyed his finsiders interview afterwards
