I mentioned them taking Martin at #19 and James at #50 about a week ago, but it's looking more and more like they are going to move up for James. 101 starts between the 2 and both are team captains. LT-Albert LG-Martin C-Pouncey RG-Smith RT-James that looks like a playoff caliber offensive line to me

Strengths
Engages quickly. Flexible and light on his feet. Can work his hips and maneuver. Good blocking posture -- bends his knees, sits in his stance and can shuffle, slide and mirror. Good hand placement (can pop and recoil). Seals running lanes. Can combo block and fit on linebackers. Athletic to pull and trap. Passes off stunts and is alert to blitzers. Started every game of his career. Played well against Alabama in the BCS Championship and was MVP of the Pinstripe Bowl. Sparkling intangibles. Highly respected, hardworking leader who does all the right things.
Weaknesses
Lacks ideal length to stay outside in the pros -- relatively small wingspan. Not a pure road grader who rolls off flat-backed and buries defenders. Could be stressed by bigger, more powerful defensive tackles. Can improve balance and sustain on the second level. Does not have experience at guard. Could stand to bulk up in preparation for a move inside.
Draft Projection
Round 1
Bottom Line
Athletic, smart, competitive, dependable college left tackle whose length dictates a move inside, where he has plug-and-play ability in a zone-blocking scheme. One of the cleanest prospects in this year's draft. -Nolan Nawrocki

No question, that would be a nice line. As I mentioned in another thread, I don't see that happening but you never know. I really hope Miami gets a difference maker in the 1st, but you certainly could argue that a pro-bowl caliber guard could be a difference maker. I firmly believe this draft should be about protecting Tannehill and getting him some more weapons on offense. Somewhere along the line I'd like to see a corner and linebacker with some ability in this draft.

So, if the Dolphins managed this scenario -- probably giving up a 2nd and 3rd to move up --- how would you see the remainder of the draft going?

Ja'Wuan James

Strengths
Outstanding size, girth and overall body mass. Good hand placement. Can steer and control blockers once he gets his hands on them. Very patient pass protector. Matches up very well vs. size and power (see Alabama). Battle-tested, experienced four-year starter in the SEC. Outstanding personal and football character. Very smart, mature and highly respected.
Weaknesses
Raw footwork. Has a lot of heaviness in body and can improve sustain. Lumbers to the second level and struggles to cut off and adjust to moving targets. Does not roll off the ball with power and generate strength or movement in the run game.
Bottom Line
Big, strong, heavy pass protector with good balance, anchor strength and hand use to handle power and speed. Does not affect the run game the same way and almost appears more destined for the left side in the pros. Has instant-starter potential. -Nolan Nawrocki

As you can recall I mocked Martin and James at #19 and #50 about a week ago.. I wouldn't put my name (even if it's just a username) next to this if I didn't think this was a probable outcome for Miami on the first day of the draft. I honestly have no clue where else they would target. Hopefully BPA. But I think there is a very legitimate chance this happens. We will see in 12 days, but I felt strongly enough about this to make a thread about it.

I will say this much, if Miami can turn their biggest weakness into a strength that would be a successful offseason. Obviously, as a fan, I'd like to see the team solve all of it's problems. But, you can't have Tannehill being sacked 58 times and constantly under pressure if you want him to develop and stay on the field. So I wouldn't mind this scenario.

That said, I think I'd go Shazier, Mosley or Cooks in R1 and then address the offensive line in the 2nd-4th round range.

I have been a big advocate for hitting Mosley at 19, but I would f'ing love it if The Hickey managed to snag both those dudes. On paper, (as SF Dolphin Fan said) that would change the team's biggest weakness into a strength just over one off season. Huge plus for the offense, I'd be willing to wait and get the elite play maker in the 2015 draft if I was confident that I could manage this.

I would not take James at 19. After a trade down, then yes; however, James does not seem to fit the zone blocking scheme so I smell another smokescreen.

No offense but I think this happening is as likely as an asteroid crashing down on Radio City Music Hall while the number one pick is being announced. We would have used pretty much our entire draft to take 2 corns in the first? In what might be the deepest draft in a decade? I'd be begging for Ireland back if this happened....

James would definitely be later than #19. In this scenario they would take Martin there and move back up to take James with #50 and #81. Feel free to disagree with me, but IMO I feel James best fit is in the zone scheme. As mentioned in the video by Daniel Jerermiah, James is more of a mirror and wall of guy in the run game than a mauler. My feelings aren't hurt if you disagree with me lol but this is just my opinion.

Far crazier things have happened.. look no further than last year when they moved up for Dion Jordan... I don't get this forums obsession with hating offensive lineman. I really don't. There is nothing wrong with taking offensive lineman high. Miami gave up 58 sacks last year. That cannot be overstated. 58. Sacks. There is no rule or formula that says you can only find skill players in the first round. There is no rule that says you can only find good offensive lineman in the late rounds. Good players at different positions can be found in just about any round. Tom Brady went #199 in the 6th round. Russell Wilson was taken in the 3rd. Jamaal Charles went in the 3rd round. Arian Foster went undrafted. Brandon Marshall went in the 4th round. Jimmy Graham went in the 3rd. Richard Sherman was a 5th round pick. Robert Mathis went in the 5th. Stevie Johnson was a 7th round pick. So was Marques Colston. And Cortland Finnegan. Jason Taylor was picked in the 3rd round. Zach Thomas went in the 5th.

I can go on and on with countless examples. The point is, there is no formula that says you have to take a certain position in a certain round. Talent can be found in every single round. This team needs corns. Sorry it's not exciting. But Tannehill got killed last year. Unless you want him to turn into David Carr, they need 2 high round offensive lineman. BAD

Nah sorry im not buying either

I don't know. Right now I am hung up on giving up a 3rd. If we can manage it without giving up a pick then I might be ok with it, but EVERYBODY is saying this is the draft to try and get more picks, not give them up.

What about trading down and grabbing the guard from UCLA while picking up an extra 3rd and then using it to move back up for James.
