I look at this team and say year 1 we can easily make big strides if they focus on 4 positions.

I say we go after an LT in FA - ideally Adams. LT is critical because it takes care of 2 positions. It moves Carey back to RT where he could be a pro bowl level. Now you have 3 spots on the OL solid.

You draft DT unless someone gets cut. Right now there is nobody that may be worth it. Haynesworth will get tagged. 1st 2 rds you have to draft a monster NT (which means trading down is the biggest move of the draft). If you don't anchor the DL the 3-4 falls apart up the gut.

You need a play making safety. Maybe one of the Cowboys comes in but we HAVE to get a safety that fits the mold. The 3-4 D's that work well all have a stud safety. We can't count on YBell and Hill.

The 4th is a toss up between a BIG WR or a BIGGER MLB. We need to big tough up the gut on D and we don't have that stud MLB to fill the gaps. We also need a big time WR to pair with Ginn. Nowadays teams are getting these 6'4 long arm WR's that can outjump any DB. Pretty basic in the redzone - you can't single cover a Moss or Burress as was shown - too big.

I know we have alot more needs but this is only year 1 and if we get a big time guy at these 4 or 5 spots we are well on our way. Not marginal guys but play makers. We have high draft picks and alot of money - no reason with the right guys making the calls we can't grab 4 to 5 big time players.

That's all of course ASSuming they don't determine we need a QB with our #1. Then that throws everything off!

The most important position on this team (any team) is QB. So he goes, so goes the team.

Beck might be the answer, but just as likely, might not be. We have to deal with that reality and do so early.

I think we need to sign a FA QB and draft a QB early.

After that, its both lines. All picks, both lines. If you can rush the passer, and you can keep your QB upright, you will win more than you lose, even if your WRs or LBs or DBs are a bit deficient.

Only if you can keep him upright! See SB 42 as to why. It takes 22 players, with the right chemistry, to win. Any chain (team) is only as strong as it's weakest link.

I might sub in a stud TE in that equation somewhere.

fred davis would be a gift.

if we can get a big TE who can run block well, in addition to the improvements on the OL you mentioned, RB and RW could run wild.

that same stud TE could also eat up some cheap yardage on some short release routes to keep the chains moving.

a few things we need to do.

solidify the O line.
pick up a NT if we are indeed playing 3-4
pick up a reliable safety. bell needs to stay healthy, I'm not sure he can.
a stud TE
MLB
WR

I think that Carey is just fine at LT and he has the ability to become even better. I'd rather look to the draft to find a RT than over spend for Adams who is winding down and moving Carey again. There are several possiblities in the draft, Nicks, Benedict, Baker are all intriguing potential additions to the OL.

I think there are a few other names out there other than Haynesworth. Corey Williams, Tommy Kelly, Isaac Sopoaga, Randy Starks, Ethan Kelley in FA and there is the possibility that Jason Ferguson will be released. Shaun Rogers and Kris Jenkins might be available via trade, add them to the list of names.

If we can sign one of them and add a guy like Red Bryant in the draft, I would be happy.

Don't forget about Jason Allen, he played well in the 2nd half and deserves a look. As a rebuilding team we have time to be patient with our young players.

MLB will probably be filled through the draft, although Donnie Spragan and Channing Crowder might be what we go into the season with. Porter might also be moved to the inside. I like Jonathan Goff and Beau Bell, hopefully we'll take a long look at them.

Bryant Johnson would be a great fit in Miami, he's young and big, he runs great routes and has very good hands. Count me in!

Yeah, we have alot of needs and it will take more than one year, but we shouldn't try to rush this by overspending for guys that aren't the best fit for our team.

I agree on the V. carey deal. we need to quit moving this dude around year after year. He can't be expected to accell, if he doesn't what position he is playing from one year to the next.

Being patient is fine, but I'm telling you in year two of the parcells era, this is going to be a winning franchise. This is what parcells does. Look at his track record, his turnarounds do not take long. I am hoping this turnaround won't be the lone exception to the track record.

We will know far more when the free agents are brought in...it will tell us what direction the Dolphins will lean towards in the draft...but this is a two-three year rebuilding project...so you have to be patient.

The general consensus down here in Texas is the Flo is getting franchised if no agreement by Thursday.

exactly fishypete!!!

and i don't mind keeping Carey at LT... as long as we jsut get another tackle for the opposite side of wherever he be.

i'd rather not have Porter move inside though.... hopefully we can find someone in draft. i want to see more film on this Goff guy so i not relying on the little i saw from his thread a bit ago.

Lofton!!! :)
