I was wondering this earlier and I'd like to get people's opinions *coughboomercough*. Assuming no big FA signings what position would you like to see us draft in the 1st? Obviously, QB is #1, but since there's a good chance that there wont be one worth taking at that spot, I've been thinking about other options. I rank them like this:
1) QB - no explanation needed.
2) LT - when your 2 best players on offense are both RB's, you want to give them lanes to run in. Although Houck's done a great job getting this unit respectable, I'd love to see us be dominant in the trenches on offense and letting RB and RW punish LB's and DB's play after play after play.
3) DT - Wright has the makings of a star, but I'd love to get another stud to play alongside him. My philosophy on DLinemen is that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. You can double up on one dominant guy, but you can't double up on 2 without limiting your offense and leaving LB's free to roam.
4) DB - easily a more pressing need than DT, but I bet Saban can find another gem in the middle rounds just like he did with Daniels (who will very, very good when he gets more experience). We'll also have Poole back.
5) LB - I'm comfortable saying that Pope and Crowder are our future at LB. Zack has a few more years left in him, though I think we can pretty much count on him being hurt at some point.
6) WR - Low down on the list because I don't see the point of another WR until we get the QB situation fixed.
