Alright, the game just ended. Miami goes home with the win. I know it is preseason, but winning goes a long way no matter what. So this is good for team moral. Here are my highlights:
Offense
Ronnie & Sammy looked good. I really think that these guys are our #1 & #2 RBs. Ronnie did a lot of good things early on when the rest of the offense was stalling. Morris did some good things later and got the TD. I'm not sure who should get the #3 spot. Minor has experience and is good on special teams. But Kay Jay Harris looks like he could be something pretty decent too. Riggs hasn't done much except carry a famous last name. Minor is still probably edging out the #3 spot.
Dante looked off in the first quarter - way off. But he put it together with Morris and got the TD. He looked like he didn't have the offense in sync. They must be still gelling as a unit. I'm looking forward to Dante's progress against Carolina on Thursday. I still need to see some more from him.
Booker & Chambers made minor contributions. Hagan got his first catches of the preseason, which was very good to see. Welker was nonexistent this game. Vick had a nice return, but was nowhere to be found at WR. Gibson had some nice catches with Joey. Rader shined pretty bright tonight at TE.
The new editions to the O-Line had some hiccups. Anderson jumped twice in a row and brought Miami back near their own goaline, and Shelton jumped once. Other than that, the line looked pretty decent.
Defense
The first team defense looked sluggish early. That was when the Bucs got their field goal. Wilkinson seemed like the only guy playing out there early on. He made a HUGE debut on defense tonight. But the first team defense came alive and stop the Bucs after that during the rest of the first half. The D-Line looked solid. LBs looked good. The first team secondary looked pretty decent as well. No big plays given up by them.
The negative part of the defense comes from the backups. Miami's backups at every defensive position lack maturity. They are young. They never string great plays together. You only see them make one great play at a time. They also seem to be giving up the BIG PLAY. Jason Allen was getting burned & lost against the Jags. And now against the Bucs he got juked out for a TD. This time he was a CB. Jason is really lost right now in the defense. There are still two more preseason games left. I hope he figures it out soon. He can't be getting burned like that in the regular season. Opposing teams will pick on him nonstop.
The other DBs looked ok tonight. Cooper emerged with a nice INT.
Overall, I think the Dolphins looked pretty good. If Jason Allen had gotten it right by stopping the TD, the final score would have most likely been 13-6. That is the kind of score you get playing the Bucs. It is usually a low scoring game. So Miami did well. The next game will be MUCH bigger than the first two. Players get cut after the game. I'm looking forward to it. GO FINS!!! :dolphins:
